What's the new Knopfler sound like? I heard Shangri-La was pretty good
but I mostly gave up on Knopfler after Ragpicker's Dream, when he
started getting way too old-man for me (although off of Shangri-La I
loved "Boom, Like That" and "Don't Crash the Ambulance"). I've undertaken the massive task of correctly tagging everything on my iPod - correct artists, correct song titles, and as close to the correct album names and art as I can get (AMG helps a lot). I've got all the songs correctly listed by name and artist, and everything has an album to go with it, and now I'm downloading album art. Currently on the B's - this is gonna take a while. --- OGC |

Shangi-La is actually my favourite Knopfler album, but this new one
sounds kind of unremarkable to me. Very few of the songs actually stood
out. It's a very slow album, so maybe it just needs more time to warm
up, but after listening to it twice I'm not in any particular hurry to
go back. --- Never stop the car on a drive in the dark... http://www.last.fm/user/A_I_e_x/ |

Went to a bar called Hooligan's and saw a band in concert called the
Spike Band. They were a bar blues/funk band, which Denton has no
shortage of. They were awesome, so I bought their CD for $10. Hooray

Listened to the new Mark Knopfler. I was pretty excited because the
first half is made almost entirely of awesome (particularly The
Scaffolder's Wife), but after Secondary Waltz, the album is one long
stretch of solid boring. There's a difference between low-key and
sleep-inducing; sometimes Knopfler gets it right, sometimes he doesn't. Incidentally, I like the songs that prominently feature an instrument aside from Knopfler's guitar the most. He did get a little crazy with the accordion though - wasn't it in like, four or five songs? Keeper tracks for me: 1, 2, 4, and 6. The Fizzy & the Still and We Can Get Wild were okay but I think I can live without them. Also downloaded Together We're Heavy and The Fragile Army, gonna take a double dose later. --- OGC |

It only takes a day for things to get shuffled around again. Venetian Snares released a follow-up album to 2005's Rossz csillag alatt született today and some of the tracks are absolutely incredible. Finally listened to it. NIce Kid A + Hail to the Thief grooves,
although I suppose if one didn't like those that much, this ain't going
to be record of the year. 01) 15 Step - 4/5 [off-kilter Kid A vibes, but good ones] 02) Bodysnatchers - 5/5 ["Electioneering"'s funky brother] 03) Nude - 4/5 [great intro + climax] 04) Weird Fishes/Arpeggi - 5/5 ["Treefingers" taken to outer space] 05) All I Need - 3.5/5 [Didn't impress me, though it sounds like a grower] 06) Faust Arp- 5/5 [Reminds me of "Polyethylene Pt 1" -- over too soon] 07) Reckoner - 3.5/5 [Nice tambourine, but reminds me of parts of Amnesiac I skip] 08) House of Cards - 4/5 [seems kinda tropical to me] 09) Jigsaw Falling into Place - [groovy guitars] 10) Videotape - 3/5 [piano's nice, but kinda plodding] --- Take me down from the ridge where the summer ends And watch the city spread out just like a jet's flame |

Thanks to my girlfriend, I finally found a song that has been eluding
me for years, which I could not adequately describe to anyone since it
was an instrumental. I'm sure you have probably heard it before without
knowing the name and the artist, but if you ever get a chance, go
