What should I use to contribute images?

Because the help files say that I shouldn't use paint, and the GIMP doesn't work, and paintshop costs money, I think, so what should I use?

You don't have to worry a lot about what software you use to create your images. What you do need to worry about, is to save the images in a file format that GameFAQs accepts, such as .PNG or .GIF. As far as I know, GIMP can save to both of those file formats.

I just use Paint and save as .PNG. Sometimes Photoshop for resizing complex images.

I use MSPaint as well. I just go with what I've been using because it's what works for me.

I use paint, though I've never been able to size my imgaes correctly without help.

When I use Paint, and I save an image only about the size of a photograph, It is always like 300K, does this happen to you?

It's because you saved it as a BMP. Save it as something smaller. If it is smaller usually the quality suffers, but copy the good quality image, save it as the smaller PNG, then paste the image over it and save again. The size is small but the quality stays the same!

i'm too lazy to save and examine the image, but i'll wager that it's currently 24-bit color. use some image-editing program to reduce it to 8-bit color, save it again, and watch it be less than half the filesize.

I saved it, opened it in Photoshop, choose Save for Web, pick PNG-8, and it drops to about 77KB. It could probably go lower if I adjusted the color settings.

I don't have that. At best I can get it to 16, but then the image becomes demented. So I just contributed them as 24 BMP, I'll see if Gamefaqs can change them for me.

It might not be much, but might I suggest you using a brighter color to name of the map and your name because I can barely see it.

Yellow indicators, what else can I do? Should I make them little pointers like in that, would a description paragraph help?

I would have loved to have these maps when I was playing the game.

Or you could stop submitting this every single day. It's not going to be posted. There's basically no information provided by it. You have some giant arbitrarily sized squares that don't represent anything to me. Do the gangs all stand around in giant squares holding hands or something? Do they wear numbered jerseys with the numbers 1-21 on them? I'm guessing not. It's nice that you want to submit something, but please try something other than these maps, or at least add enough information on them to actually tell the viewer something.

I dunno SB, I really don't know how much more descriptive he could be. I mean, maybe these gangs sticks out like a sore thumb. Sure he could have been more informative, but I personally don't know what else he could mention. And if he was to describe what each gang looked like, he would have half the map with a player's note describing each one. If these gangs do stick out rather obviously, then he's done all he can for being informative.

Some maps, while they may be necessary, may not need much to describe the entire situation. Sometimes just little bits are more than enough info. Example being Heart Piece location maps for most of the Zelda games.

Yes I've played the game. Heaven forbid I expect someone to take more than 5 minutes creating an image file to post on the site (ie taking a screenshot from the game and copy/pasting blobs on it). I guess we can start accepting stick figures too if that's what everyone wants. Or just maybe people could be willing to put in the extra 5 minutes to polish it out a bit. Again I don't remember the gangs all standing in square shapes in the game. How about attempting to make your blobs in the shapes of where you find them on the map? Draw in the actual circumference of their domain and then color that in? I know I know, it's more work and we wouldn't want that, but then it's actually helpful.

Wait.. you deleted the new ones, but I, did what you said! The gangs are in the general locations of the skulls. They spawn randomly, so there is no real place that the gangs hang!

In the 20 years I have drawn/read maps, I've learned that even the simplest of things can be mapped it seems.

I've used screenshots in a few of my maps too. It's not that uncommon of a practice.
