Fifth Non-Prolific FAQers Tournament: General Information/Voting

Hey there, and welcome to the 2008 Non-Prolific FAQers Tournament! This
topic is intended to announce the tournament, to give information about
it, and to get some consensus regarding two minor technicalities. Also,
I want to think Yami (Space MedafighterX) for his help in all of this. For the basic rules, I direct you to the bracket from last year: http://www.freewebs.com/tjackson3/2007npbracket.html At this point, if you've been here for any of the other tournaments, you can skip on down to the end. I make this topic now because, qua non-prolific FAQers tournament, we have to do this by nominations; that is, we obviously can't include every single non-prolific writer. It just wouldn't work. Instead, we invite you to nominate your favorite writers. That topic will come up at the beginning of May, but this topic just stands to get you thinking about it. As you can see from the bracket, this is your basic single-elimination tournament. It's plain and simple - two writers go up against each other, and you vote for whom you believe is the better writer. Alright, so with that information out of the way, here are the two details we need to work out: 1.) Tournament of Champions? Last year, after the tournament was over, we had a little exhibition round between last year's winner, AstroBlue, and the winner of the previous year, Phoenix 1911, and good times were had by all. Unfortunately, at the conclusion of this tournament, we'll have three winners. This gives us three options: A.) Have this year's winner go up against Phoenix 1911, with the winner taking on the winner of last year's tournament of champions, AstroBlue, B.) Invite the second place finisher of the tournament to take part in the tournament of champions, seeding it as follows: (1) AstroBlu , or C.) Not do a tournament of champions at all. 2.) 32- or 64- person bracket? This is self-explanatory, but it changes from year to year. Do we want to have 64 writers competing or just 32? Bear in mind that if it is 64, we'll have to have 64 nominations. Ah crap, i can't enter this year since I passed the prolific gap late last year. Oh well, I could go for the prolific one. --- Defence is the best form of attack, except when the other side is defending. |

Just wondering, as I am a N00B here, what defines a writer to be a Prolific Writer? Also, does the Non-Prolific Writer have to post on this board? - If one's not on the 4MB prolific list (>4096kb), then they're free game - Those being nominated don't have to post here - It's entire body of work v. entire body of work As for the tournament of champs, how 'bout all three versus each other in one round? Having the runner-up making it a four-way could work, too. There's a lot of options; no reason to leave that part out. Shooting for a 64-person bracket seems easier in my head, but it could probably be manageable. Man, it's going to feel so odd that I can't be nominated for this tournament now. Oddly enough, I lost to both eventual champions, being the runner up in last years tourney. As for your questions: 1.) 1.) I'm for Shotgun's idea of having a threeway. LOL But seriously, would such a thing really work? I mean one on one would make better sense. 1 vs 1 vs 1 would just confuse things further I would think. --- How much is a large water? - 50 cents How much is a free water? - O_o |

The sexual innuendo was totally on purpose. I don't see what's so different about it, honestly. It's just one added person and you just vote for that person. One thing that's done in the prolific tournaments occasionally is that
you have the threeway, and the top two performers in the threeway go on
to have their own, ultimate encounter, until we reach the climax of the

I wouldn't see a problem with a three-way vote. A three-way winner
takes all would be my preference, rather than a 2 round kind of a
thing. Who the year before the year before? Maybe it could be made into

A TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS! is always a
fun note to end on, and as for bracket size, I say leave that up to
nominations and how much work you want to put in. We might not even

Nah. The nomination topic will be on May 1, although...well, I dunno if
a week's notice would be sufficient to do the nominations now and start
the tournament May 1. This is just for voting, discussion, hype, sexual
