I was kind of planning on just retiring the tournament after last
year's. I also liked how last year's was the 10th tourney, so I figured
why not end it for good at a nice even number... But seriously though, there are 98 prolific writers currently on the 4MB+ list. If there really is an interest for such a tourney to take place, I'll once again do it. But rather than jump to it right away, I'd like to see what others may have to say about it (in this topic perhaps)... It's something I would like to see. It's something to liven things up a
bit right? Maybe it would be an idea to have something a little
different this time around. Possibly in the way you vote (e.g. point
allocation) or the actual bracket (e.g. 2 bowls?). --- Orthodoxy is unconsciousness |

Considering it's 99% the same people each year, and it's not like
anything they've written since (if even anything in most cases) is
going to really make much difference on peoples' opinions, it seems
like an enormous amount of work for something that's essentially
already been done. --- Is it a solar fever? http://www.last.fm/user/A_I_e_x/ |

Well, one thing I've noticed is that there is an influx of new people
coming around in the last year. I see lots of old faces, but I see just
as many new ones as well. While a large amount of the people on the
list last year are still going to be on it this time, there are a lot
of newcomers as well I see looking at the list right now. If the tourney does happen, the general concept behind it won't change. I think it's fair since everyone has come to know how these operate. If someone else wants to run their own thing, that's up to them, but this is my creation. However, my "twist" would be to have two brackets this time so there is no three-way that comes from a pure 96-person bracket. We have 98 prolifics currently; why not have a 64 bracket and a 32 one, then run them both to completion, and have the winner of each go against each other to decide who the champion of the overall tournament is. Perhaps the top 32 in one, and 33-96 in the other? I don't know. It was just an idea I came up with should any of this even come to being. --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com |

^ That sounds like a good idea actually. It'd definitely spice things up. And I disagree with people saying the tourney this year would be, for instance, the same as last year. The first thing to note is that there will obviously be 96 people in this one instead of 64 in the last one, plus while a lot of authors have been rather static lately, particularly the older ones, there's a ton of new ones who keep on contributing new work, some of which can easily stand up against the old ones. So I see no reason that the tourney is old. Especially since it is an annual thing, after all, and there's some new writers to look at. --- Woof. You know, as a computer programmer, it's not hard to write a randomization program into C++ or any language for that matter. I could come up with a program to do so real quick like. I agree with the randomizing. That's a great idea. It'll give some
variation to the tournament; however, would you still split the
brackets if you did it that way? It seems to be less important to split
the brackets if the seeds are randomized. The tournament is a staple of
the board, though, and I/we always run the non-prolific tournament as a
warm-up for this one. --- Randomize() http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9132/meowthumn1gifge2.gif | Y.T.W.S.R - I.W.W.H.T.Q |
