Today, I had an awesome day. Eventually, I got home and saw the news around here. Now, I decided that perhaps it was time to step down, too. I know this will sound pretty weird, maybe I'll even be banned for it or something, but I need to do this. I'm writing the "guys up there" in a minute, and I'll post my message here, you people deserve to know. If either of these messages are my last ones, I gotta say that I enjoyed most of the time I spent here. Thanks, CjayC. Thanks, everyone. --- Searching for a girl with black hair, glasses, less than 1,65 meters tall, really pale... Can you please help me with it? Check my profile for more stuff. |

Here is a copy of the message I sent "up there". Hi. This message is specially aimed at Jeff "CJayC" Veasey. I want his reply, not someone's elses, and hopefully I'll get it. Once upon a time, me and a friend were hanging online, looking for arcade codes, and found some other site. A few days later, we first came to Gamefaqs, and we liked it. Since I didn't have any internet connection back then, I had to come from public libraries, saving FAQs to diskettes and reading them at home. My first FAQ, the first one I read, was Kao Megura's Final Fantasy VII one, and thanks to him I started writing FAQs. Now, he's gone... When I finally managed to get an internet connection, the very first action I did was come to this site and register. I liked this site, I loved it back then, and I was more than happy to try to contribute here. Later, Gamefaqs was purchased by Cnet. I gotta confess I was slightly upset, but since it was basically our good old site, I decided I should stay. I continued writing, despite not liking some of the changes that happen around here. Not for Bounties, not for publicity, not for becoming a moderator (like some claimed), but mostly because some guy, some "Jeff" who lives in the other side of the world, once decided to create this site, and give it his all. In my opinion, this was your legacy, and without you to protect us it won't be the same. I disliked Cnet, sure I did. I even disliked Gamespot and all that, but I was writing in order to bring more people here, to try making a bigger community, to help others and, above everything, to perpetuate YOUR legacy, the creation you imagined years ago. More than once, I disliked how things were going and proceeded instead of leaving, just for that CjayC I admired, hoping that things would still be the same, but after tonight I know they won't. You leaving is, up to a certain point, an hint of what the Moirae have for us - we will become a puppet of Gamespot, a mere appendix to them, and in spite of what I've requested in feedback ticket #25105, I failed to prevent it. Every time I write a guide, Gamespot will get it. Same goes for codes, box art or close to anything, and there's nothing we can do about it. No matter how I look at it, your departure weakens us. Sailor Bacon may probably do a good job, but he's not you, he's not the founder, he's not the man who once created this site, the man who made me contribute, the man I used to admire. There's no longer a Kao Megura, and now there's no CjayC? I can't continue, sorry. Perhaps I have do advance, to continue my life, to evolve, and if evolution relies on leaving the place that saw my work start, so shall it be. I read what you've stated, but my decision is taken. If you, Jeff Veasey actually leave, so shall I, or I'd never excuse myself for taking any other position. Provided this message doesn't get me banned, I'll post one last review (I had promissed it to the folks at a particular board...) and at the end of July I'll ask for almost my contributions to be removed, except for reviews (at least... until Gamespot starts getting those), due to dialogues I had with certain contributors. I'll probably still visit the boards once in a while, but I'll restrain myself from contributing at all. Above everything else, thanks. I loved your creation and all the years I spent here, but perhaps my future, just like yours, is somewhere else. "Mykas0" In case I get banned.... Thanks, everyone. I loved every single bit of time I spent here. --- Searching for a girl with black hair, glasses, less than 1,65 meters tall, really pale... Can you please help me with it? I don't see why you'd get banned, but that's just ****ing lame. Last I checked, you were here for the site and its content, not to pledge your undying love to the man that runs it. --- ~Karpah~ What do girls do during sex, anyways. They just lay there and moan a lot! |

The last thing that CJayC could have wanted was for users to leave and
contributors to stop contributing. He wanted the polar opposite. If you
want to perpetuate his "legacy", the best thing you can do is to
continue contributing and posting. --- Holy ****. That's huge. *so wants to go to Canada* - LannyGamer2323 |

That's not ban worthy, but it's not what CJay would want. The entire
point of contributing is gamers helping other gamers out. That was
exactly what CJay created this site to be. It seems a bit funny to me
that you would pull all your work while claiming to be doing it to
"perpetuate his legacy." or whatever. I'm disappointed that he won't be running the site anymore, but the man has to live his own life and I'm not going to be emo and close my account simply because he no longer maintains the site. I don't know why you wrote your guides, but I did it to help gamers, and my guides will do that, regardless of who maintains the site. --- The killer, karmic©, charismatic, cryptastic©, clever Kirby! You know what? If that's the way you feel, then just leave. Your reason
for leaving is incredibly lame and dumb, and you're not accomplishing
anything by doing it. You're not inspiring anyone, or making a point,
or standing up for a good cause. You're just being childish. But if that's how you feel, I won't be sorry to see you gone. So bye. Guys, PLEASE! I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but I was hoping that people would *at least* respect my decision, ok? I just woke up and I feel like if this was all a bad dream, which it isn't. You people claim that I don't have that much respect for Jeff Veasey? He is going away for good, for God's sake, and I'm unhappy about that... he was the person who started it all! If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be here today, and all that! Now that he is going, what will be next? Paid memberships? No matter how I look at it, Sailor Bacon (or anyone else!) just isn't Jeff, and they don't represent the same thing, they don't represent the person who once started it all, the person who promissed us that nothing would change and, above lots of other stuff, the person who promissed us a bunch of stuff that, these days, are probably going down the drain for not be heard ever again! In a few months, I'm 99% sure that we will become just an appendix to Gamespot, and I don't want to see that, it would be too hurtful. Without the man to protect us and ensure that promises will actually be kept, it's too risky, it's too unsure. Perhaps you disagree, it's up to you and I don't expect you to understand my reasons, but I was hoping that you'd at least respect them.... --- Searching for a girl with black hair, glasses, less than 1,65 meters tall, really pale... You seem to be portraying CJayC as some entity whose sole purpose in
life is to manage GameFAQs. Seriously, CJayC has a life to live, and
running this place is just taking it out of him. People move on, yanno.
What's more, you also seem to think, despite whatever he might have
said on the Daily Grind, that he's going to completely vanish
altogether and never have another thing to do with this place
whatsoever. If he appears and says that's indeed the case then I'll
gladly change my mind, but I would think that the creation of this
place would have definitely been monumental enough for him to
occasionally stop by and see the new order of it. At some point, you
have to reduce about 60 hours a week on this place (or more) to about 1
though, you get my drift? I might also add, there's a reason that he entrusted this place to SBAllen as he is now called -- because he's a capable person who can certainly manage things in a way that won't make us all lose ourselves, moaning in melancholy about how different the site is. Tying in with what I said before, I think that this place has probably left such a brimstone in his life that CJayC won't ever 100% leave this site until it returns to the void, and with that I doubt he will ever allow the day to come that this place becomes a second GameSpot. If you truly have made up your mind, I won't, neither am I capable of, saying a thing to sway you off of that, but I'll just add something else. He's leaving and telling the new generation to make him proud, to further carry on the legacy he created, not to remove your contributions to a site that is for gamers, not you and he alone, and if you respect him so much you should at the very least acknowledge that this is anything but what he would want. --- Woof. NeoSeiffer, you are free to do whatever you want, but your decision is
incredibly childish and is an utter slap in the face to the man you
seem to practically be in love with. You talk of CJayC's legacy and
your way to honor that is, what, to try to make the site worse by
removing your work? It makes no sense. Your work is yours to do as you
wish, but your justification is extremely childish. Frankly I'm surprised that other big writers aren't taking a leave as well, due to all this. Hopefully it stays the same with CJayC fading out. Really? I could see this if it were still 2003, but CJayC is hardly a significant part of this site nowadays. He could have posted that he really retired six months ago and I would have believed it. As a credit to him, he has made the transition well enough that this place can continue to grow without him. His leaving won't really change anything, so what would be the sense of anyone removing work or quitting? Did all these authors really just write for one man? --- - The Admiral |

If I had to give you a small answer to that question, it would be: How can I change my username? You can't, unless you become an Administrator. (...) No, I haven't gone crazy (yet). Instead, what I mean is that Sailor Bacon becomes appointed to the biggest place up there and what does he start by doing? Breaking what we thought to be "eternal", what RULES state to be eternal, and showing that they don't apply to everyone! It's a simple, yet awesome way to show things are going to change. Now, if you want a more complex answer, I'll give it. This is not CjayC's fault, but him leaving was the last drop. I usually tend to restrain from talking about this in "public", but I guess there's no harm in doing it now. If BethanyM or any of the Gamespot staff wanna do anything about it, they have my number and they're free to call me. It all started a few years ago, back when Gamespot joined us. I thought it wouldn't be fair to insult them without giving the site a try, and since I also wanted to tell BethanyM that I was sorry for what a few people say about her, there I went. People weren't that nice, and despite my efforts to contribute I didn't really fit. Privately talking to one of their moderators, I kindly asked to be banned (or I would get myself banned on purpose), as I didn't wanted to be there, which they did. Unfortunately, they didn't removed my contributions, and many things I had written were still in there. I was told to mail BethanyM and some other guy about this, waited for months and nothing was done about it. Eventually, I had to call my lawyer, who got in touch with the guys at Cnet, who solved it for good, but this was an experience that I don't really really want to repeat. By being banned from Gamespot, I got automatically banned from all of Cnet (I discovered this when I was about to contribute to TV.com), and this means that if there's ever a database merger with other sites, I'll be banned from here, too, and probably my contributions would still be up, starting it all over again. Back then, I thought "Meh, I'll just stay in Gamefaqs, nothing bad will happen, I'll just ignore Gamespot's existence", and so I did, doing the stuff I always do... When I later received an e-mail concerning May 2006's FAQ of the Month, it came from Gamespot, where I was to sign a paper that would give all rights of this work of my to their site. Obviously, I rejected it and refused to receive my prize. By then, I decided that it was time to stop this from happening and decided to change my FAQ Availability to 'Restricted'. You know what's funny? Such option does nothing at all, and everyone still gets your guides. Back in March 2007, I asked for it to be fixed, and in April 2007 I was told that the person up there (one of the Administrators...) had "asked for the changes to be made this week". More than 4 months have passed by now, and nothing was done about it! (continues) --- Searching for a girl with black hair, glasses, less than 1,65 meters tall, really pale... Previously, back when we merged, we were told that they weren't "going
to strip out the soul of the site and leave an empty shell for all to
see". Now, our FAQs are added to Gamespot and all of Cnet (there's no
way to avoid it!). So are our images, our codes, our data, and our box
images. If that's not enough, we also get their ads and everything
else. What do we get in return? "Hints & FAQs provided courtesy of
GameFAQs" and a few hits, which I don't even care about. We were told that "GameFAQs isn't going to be merged in with GameSpot or any other site", which we did. We were told that "GameFAQs will still be free", but there's a certain window that hints at Premium Accounts. It's not the point of ME paying for an account, I would have paid for one if we weren't a part of Cnet, but I just don't want to see random people having to pay for X or Y... We were told that we "still own what you've submitted to GameFAQs", and now Box Images, along with the documents required to get any kind of prizes, state otherwise. We were told that Jeff Veasey was "not going anywhere", and now we have a different answer about that. Basically, all four things that were initially promised were broken... who knows what will be done, in the future, when Jeff is no longer here to protect us? You talk about my decision, but I've just stated that "I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but I was hoping that people would at least respect my decision". You talk about what I've stated as if you knew everything, but you know nothing about my life. As previously told, I really admired Kao Megura, and back when I heard what had happened to me, I cried. Later, I contacted his brother, in hopes that I could write a translation for the famous FF7 guide... While I could do it, tears tended to get into my eyes each time I tried to translate a single line. No matter how much I tried to ignore it, he was much better than I was, and I think I'll never be that good... I didn't cried over my father's death, nor did I cried on my grandfather's one. Not even when my best friend allegedly died, I really admire the guy, and he's gone... Now, the other person I admired, CjayC, will be gone, too! For the last 4 years, I was stalked, stabbed, sued by crazy people, insulted by Portuguese magazines, almost thrown out of university, blackmailed and many other things. Nowadays, I've got even worse memory problems, and more often than not I can't recall what I've written 20 minutes ago, which is the reason on why sometimes my writing makes no sense. Yet, I continue trying to write reviews, mythology articles and many other things, hoping that things would be just like in the days we were only Gamefaqs, not a simple appendix to another network. Sure I used to write for CjayC's creation, for how much I admired Kao Megura and maybe for my princess, but I'd never forgive myself if I continued contributing despite the way things are heading. "People up there" would get the wrong idea, the idea that no matter how many bad things they throw at us, we'd always stay here. Maybe some of you will, but I won't, not without the man who started this site. His departure is, according to my mind, a symbol of Gamefaqs' death, and I'm sure things will go worse as time progresses, because people refuse to take a stand. Here, I take mine, and I'll take my work somewhere else. --- Searching for a girl with black hair, glasses, less than 1,65 meters tall, really pale... Can you please help me with it? Let me get this straight. You contacted your lawyer to get you banned from GameSpot? Seriously? ... Not even when my best friend allegedly died, I really admire the guy, and he's gone... Now, the other person I admired, CjayC, will be gone, too! Look, it's a good thing you were affected by the fact that Kao Megura died, but I think that's just going a bit too far almost to the point of creepiness, plus it's really disrespectful that you compare Kao to CJayC. I wouldn't close your account or pull your contributions if I were you,
