It's time for...A NEW TOURNAMENT!

Space Medafighter X | Posted 8/12/2007 4:00:03 AM | message detail
Ladies and gentlemen, you may know me better as Yami Shuryou, the cohost of the last two Non-Prolific FAQer Tournaments, in conjunction with main host TRACE “Sexilicious Meowthnum the 1st and no I’m not a Pokemon” JAAAAACKSON! However, this time around, I am taking over the regular day-to-day burdens of hosting a tournament! Now, are you ready for an absolute revolution in the way we FAQ? Are you ready to accept the consequences of this? Then step RIIIIIGHT UP for the latest zany invention out of the minds of Meowthnum-Shuryou headquarters………the TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT! Also known as T3 for short.

“Wha?!” you may exclaim, dropping your potato chips at your computer desk. “It’s not a regular tournament in which authors fight to the death until a single man (or woman as the case may be) stands up out of the pile of death with a blood-soaked trident, walking away in a blazing aura of absolute victory?” No! Instead, the Tag Team Tournament revolves around an entirely different concept – the matchup of individual FAQs. But that’s not all! As the name of the tournament may suggest, all FAQs must be coauthored FAQs.

Do not be thinking you can get by with just your writing skills alone, either! The very nature of the Tag Team Tournament forces you to work together with your fellow writer, and develop a nature of being able to write seamlessly. Show off your ability to function as a single unit, and prove that it is indeed possible to create a coauthored FAQ not hindered by an absolute difference in writing style, format, content, and overall the very SOUL of an FAQ. Show it, for the art of cowriting may be redefined by your efforts!

Rules are below. For further clarification on anything in here or not mentioned, please ask in this topic now. A new topic will be made exactly one month now to post submissions in, and will continue on until January 1st, 2008. The actual contest will start on January 15th, 2008.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT RULES
-All entries MUST be coauthored. This should go without saying, but it’s here anyways.
-Only one of the authors of any FAQ needs to post in the new topic that will be created in a month’s time to enter it.
-You may submit as many coauthored FAQs that have been written by a specific FAQer, but the same duo may not be used twice. ie., author1 and author2 can submit an FAQ, and author1 and author3 can submit an FAQ, but author1 and author2 can not submit two FAQs written between them
-All entries must be submitted by January 1st, 2008. Actual completion does not matter, but it will detract your tournament performance if it is incomplete. FAQs do NOT have to be written specifically for this tournament; previous cowrites may be submitted (however, you are subject to possibly being left off the final bracket – see the next point).. You may enter it by posting it in a topic that will be created in a month’s time from now.
-How the bracket will work will be decided once all submissions are in. All FAQs written specifically for this tournament will be put in, but if we obtain a number that is not easily workable with a bracket (for example, 17 or 18, 25, 26, 33 or 34), then some of the FAQs that were not specifically written for the tournament but submitted from a prewrite might have to be eliminated.
-The bracket itself will be made using a random generator, as it would be difficult to seed considering the unique nature of this tournament.
-When it comes to writing, do not only consider quality and format, but also consider the fluidity of the FAQ. Does the writing styles of the two authors mesh together well, or do you clash with the section where one person’s part ends and the other’s beginning sticking out like a sore eye? Do the authors build on top of each other’s strengths? Do they, for lack of a better verb, synchronize?
-As the main tournament host, I will not participate with any new works (but if any of my past coauthors wish to enter something, they are free to go ahead). Meowthnum1, as the cohost, however, may participate.

Okay this is an interesting idea for a tourney, would love to see how it plays out. But seriously, you gotta switch to decaf >_>

I'm interested, but all I have co-authored is a single FAQ with Kori. If only PirateoftheFAQs and I had DK64 co-authored right now...

Slash - You have until January 1st to submit a work, and it doesn't even have to be complete at the time of entry.

Even if the FAQ isn't submitted as a co-author yet?

Has to be coauthored, but doesn't have to be complete. If your coauthor hasn't done an line of work on his side, then yeah, it wouldn't be allowed in.

Interesting. Me and SS should co-author something. That, or someone else could co-author with me (I have a few ideas).

Should be an interesting tournament to watch.

Excellent, Kirbix and I are almost done!

Though I personally think Jan 1st is a little far off, it's your choice.

:Trip - I have it as January 1st because I know just HOW MUCH some people love to take EONS even writing the first word of their FAQ. Plus people may need time to 'coordinate' their writing, so to say.

I'm intrigued.

I also agree with this statement: But seriously, you gotta switch to decaf >_>

I dunno, though- it's a bit choppy to win a contest; far too much "Strategy A and Strategy B" stuff, which goes against the whole goal of this tournament.

Although between now and January 1st, that can be fixed.

Since everyone is posting interesting and intriguing, I'd like to see some more feedback here.

As for the date; I realize that certain people are, well, slow in regards to writing FAQs, thus the big amount of time between now and then. Plus communications between the two authors may suck up more time as well.

We apologize for the inconvenience.
kirbix | Posted 8/13/2007 8:05:38 PM | message detail
The implication is that you'd like all of us to start a coauthor project between now and then so as to enter the contest, is that correct?

As someone who is unlikely to co-author any guides, I find this tournament ... infuriating.

I think it'd be a good idea for someone to make a topic that acts as a forum for starting and maintaining co-authored projects. I'm pretty sure we had a topic like this before (but I think it died before it really got anywhere). From there, I guess we can organize projects and stuff in preparation for this tournament.

I wouldn't mind starting up a guide with someone but I'd like to know what games others are interested in.
