Do you ever plan to retire from FAQ writing?

Super Slash | Posted 7/10/2007 3:01:43 AM | message detail
Just a random topic I decided to make. Personally, I don't plan to quit. As long as new games keep getting released and I keep getting motivation, my FAQ writing career will continue. I find it very fun to do, which is another reason I don't plan on stopping. I may lose motivation sometimes, but it always comes back sooner or later. >_>

The moment I become prolific KB and complete FAQs, I will probably give up writing, as that was the plan when I started FAQing 5 years ago. As for mapping, I doubt I'll ever give that up, even though it might be a struggle to find new projects.

No, as I find the idea of 'retiring' from a voluntary hobby kinda idiotic.

Plus, people that feel the need to announce their departure by making retirement topics generally don't 'retire' anyhow.

If I just lose the interest altogether, maybe. There have been a couple times now where I tried to just stop writing and get on with life, but after continuing to keep up with gaming news and seeing sequels to my favorite series released, I always end up writing "just one more" FAQ. Heh.

Honestly, I don't see myself stopping in the foreseeable future. Even these days when I've slowed to enough FAQs that I can count on one hand, I still enjoy writing 'em.

Maybe when there's a wife... and five kids... and a mortgage... and car payments... then maybe I'll stop.

OK, I have three kids instead of five; but, still, I write. I'll probably never "retire"; but, I doubt I'll keep writing for the rest of my life.

I don't know if I will or not. I just write a FAQ when I feel like it, then I might not write another one for years. So I wouldn't say it's something I can retire from. It's a hobby I sometimes enjoy.

Me, nah, although I have been inactive from FAQ writing for a few months, I'm kicking back in gear with a few projects on my list. I don't see myself calling it quits for some time, even if I don't have anything to FAQ.

I'm pretty sure I won't have all the time I spend on writing FAQs nowadays in a couple of years. So, I don't "plan" on quitting, but I might be prevented because of real life ;)

Not as such, no. Instead, I might just realize one day that I haven't written in over a year, like, uh, right now.

Yeah; I've gone on a few one-year stints where I just didn't write and then suddenly I started writing again. Even moreso with reviews- I'll pump out 10 or 15 in a month and then quit for a long time.

I will eventually stop writing as I stop playing games altogether, but not anytime soon.

Not any time soon. As long as I'm gaming, I'd come to this site, and there is always the urge to FAQ. So I'll keep writing.

When life gets too much, maybe I'll quit for a while, but the longest stint off FAQing has been about 3 months, so I can see me going for yet another 4 years.

Oh, and whoever said about College... you have more than enough free time to keep writing. Especially when there are essays and revision to be getting on with. ;)

Well, you might have missed his big epiphany topic a while back in which he sold nearly all his games and said he was kinda over the whole idea.

It was a surprise to see stated like that, but when you couple it with the topic, it's a logical conclusion.

Oh, and whoever said about College... you have more than enough free time to keep writing.

I hope so. I'd imagine that I'll be taking a break for a month or two just to test out the waters of college life. Then afterwards I can hopefully get back into FAQing if everything works out.
