PSX Completion Project

Psycho_Penquin | Posted 5/12/2007 4:57:44 PM | message detail
I figure why not, there's some pretty cool and interesting games still needing a complete FAQ.

Here's a listing: http://www.gamefaqs.com/search/index.html?platform=6&game=&contrib=1&genre=0&region=0&date=0&sort=1&adv=1

Don't forget you can modify your search!

I am going to do WCW Backstage Assault and Stuart Little 2, I think.

Waaaaaay too early. Already have three (plus) on the go, and the next obvious step is the SNES / Genesis.

Well, I just assume the plan was to let the current completion projects run their course before progressing on to the next gen of systems. Don't get me wrong, the PSX is a good choice and needs doing at some point, but its just somewhat early don't you think?

Start it if you want, hell, I'll contribute. Porsche Challenge needs a guide. And I'm on MSN now.

I was thinking the Super Nintendo was in DIRE need of such a project, but I thought it was too early to start another completion project. Now I look like a fool. A fool!

I don't see what the big deal is. They're going to start eventually, might as well start them now.

Not everyone plays random Japanese NES games.

There are a LOT of crappy PS1 games. Good luck if this is a serious effort...

SNES is a good idea but there are a LOT of Japanese games on it and they will be a lot more complex than your Japanese NES titles. There's still about a 100 US NES games, how about we at least finish the rest of the US NES games before we start another platform?

Because not everyone plays NES games!

Is this such a hard concept or something? What's wrong with having options?

With too many projects at the same time, none of them will actually get done.

The same 5 or 6 people are working on the NES CP. This PSX project may attract other people. This is such a hard concept to understand really.

Basically, the completion projects work because a few people are united for a common cause. If you have too many going, then basically it's the same as saying "Write whatever you want!". Anything you write satisfies some project at that point, and that removes the impetus that such projects provided in the first place. I mean, realistically, the goal is for every game in existence to have a FAQ, right? Completion projects exist to break that down into chunks and give writers an extra boost.

I'm not saying it's a dumb idea or anything. I'm just saying it kind of defeats the point of having the projects, though I admit that the NES one is losing steam as the number of US titles that still need FAQs diminishes. I just can't interest myself in writing FAQs for games I can't understand.

I'll continue writing for NES games, for now at least. The PSX project being open doesn't mean I have to participate, after all. I really like the NES and I want to see it complete, at least so far as the games that were released in English. The PSX doesn't interest me all that much, since by the time the PSX came around I didn't invest myself as much in any one system. Most of the games I would care about for that system have FAQs or are so massive that I couldn't write more than one or two a year without burnout.

The reason(s) I had been thinking about the SNES before this thread ever came up is that I've been going thorugh all of the FAQs for most systems as of late, and the SNES content is really, really depressing. I felt like the system deserved better. Even in many cases where a 'complete' FAQ exists, it's just barebones. But then, I'm a SNES fan from way back. NES and SNES were my constant friends throughout elementary school and junior high, right into early high school.

I'll support the PSX and any other projects, of course. I'm just personally more intereste din the NES and SNES.

Not to mention NES is easier to find some old ROMs to write with.

You're avoiding the point. Systematically picking of the enemy is better than just blasting randomly.

Not to mention NES is easier to find some old ROMs to write with.

Just what I was thinking. It would be next to impossible to FAQ every PSX game, unless you physically had the disks.

From CJayC's completion stats topic:

PlayStation - 4372 Games, 928 Complete (21.23%)

A majority of the 3400-ish games left are Japanese and/or crappy to boot. If you're willing to tackle this, have fun! I'd personally love to help with this, but all the games I actually liked on the PSX, are already overdone FAQwise. :/

YOU ALL ARE MISSING THE POINT. Want to make a war analogy? How about having 4 or 5 soldiers standing around doing all the work while every one else does nothing because they don't have the willpower or desire to do what the hard working soldiers are doing?

Everyone is acting like this project is somehow going to take away from the NES project. That;s the dumbest thing I ever heard, but whatever helps you sleep at night.

I don't even know why I bothered. Heaven forbid someone tries something different around here.

Based on that, your solution is create another battle on the same field in the hopes that some of the people standing around will randomly start fighting. That's even LESS likely to work than the first strategy.

I wouldn't really take this serious. Not to mention that most people don't have access to all these PSX games, and that most of them are Japanese, even a US-only Completion project would fail. TBH any new system that has more than a few hundred games left should focus on US/EU games, GB, Genesis and SNES included.

Just leave it be for another 10 years and then maybe every game is available as download on the PS4 ;)
