FAQ Wrapper Testing...

Just a heads-up. The optimization experts over here want to try out
some tests on the FAQ wrappers. They'll be adding flash pop-overs,
pop-ups, and punch-the-monkey ads on your guides. Just kidding. Don't shoot me. :) They are, however, trying out different color schemes for the wrappers. They'll be random, and it's just designed to see if the links get more clicks based on the color of the wrappers. It's all completely over my head, but these guys know much more about optimization than I do, and changing the color of the wrappers seems rather harmless (although there are a couple of color schemes in there that seem sort of garish). But, I wanted to let you guys know about it, just so you don't think there's something more sinister in the works. --- Once upon a time everything was lovely, but that was before I had to deal with people. |

But I liked punching the monkey... Is there any set date that they have for testing this, or is just "sometimes in the next while"? |

Cheers for the heads up, sounds innocent enough. Although I'm expecting
a rainbow coloured wrapper that cycles through the colours at a

Do you think that you will eventually allow HTML to be used in our

Saw a yellow-and-black one that looked kinda... ick... Can't we just stick with the one(s) that look like the message board/logo colours? Cross-site styling and all that. --- De enemies just ran roughshod over DeMatt... |

Lagoona basically voiced my thoughts, but that's why I'm a code monkey
and I leave the visuals to co-workers whenever possible.

choices regarding the colours of well, pretty much anything. Careful,

Actually, the idea is that whenever someone links into a guide directly
from Google or another sear... Okay, Google, they'd like to encourage
the visitor to visit the rest of the site too. When I first heard this
conversation, I was totally expecting the worst, like they'd want to
put all sorts of flashy junk or logos on it, but instead, they just
wanted to try out some different colors. So, for once, I was very
pleasantly surprised. :) The test isn't really for you, but for the
millions of anonymous people that visit the FAQs every day; the only
way to get their "opinion" on anything is to blindly and randomly test

Sorry- ignore me. I was going to ask if there was a correlation between
website styles and banner colors (neoclassic blue only gets blue), but

Okay, Google... :D If this idea never really gets anywhere and they come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter much, maybe you can snatch this as a feature for us, letting us choose our wrapper colours (either collectively for all guides, or even per guide)? I knew my headers weren't always yellow ... The only one's I've seen are all yellow with black lettering. I guess each user gets a different color or so? I wouldn't mind seeing some other colors to see which I like best. FYI: I do like the Yellow. I'm also a fan of bright green letters on a black background, if that counts. Back when I used to use IRC I had my custom setup to have this same setup (green on black). Looks cool. --- Post count adds to Karma. | I like the FAQ wrapper. It makes it more
noticeable who wrote the FAQ and who you can thank for getting you

If your browser allows you to change to the different styles set by the
page then you can view them that way (for Firefox it's "View > Page

Ah, yeah, I see now. Thanks for telling :) The old wrapper is without a doubt the one that looks best. Not that it matters a whole lot, but the other ones are pretty sharp-colored. --- "I spent the rest of the night in my room, didn't have the courage to go out again" |

OMG!!! I finally got to see one and got out as soon as I could. it was bright red and horrible. (And I have been having lots of error messages trying to access FAQs since this started. And despite looking at a lot of FAQs this is the first time I have actually seen a colour other than the usual blue.) --- "Dead people don't speak" |
