Poor Ceej, I hope he isn't stuck with ~500 of those things a day. My goodness.

I would suspect that everyone is just excited about contributing a new, easy type of submission to GameFAQs. It will die down eventually, although yes, CJayC is going to be one busy man with all of the box art submissions on top of all the other things he's got to review and post.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it reaches 1k by the time he wakes up.

Then again, there is no real need to clear that queue daily. Anyone submitting a picture will see if there is something for that game in the queue already thus there shouldn't be any duplicate entries.
Karpah | Posted 5/16/2007 4:39:45 AM | message detail
unless things have changed since I submitted something, you can't see what's in the queue...?

When you click on the region you want to submit an image for, there is a short message if there already is a thumbnail. In that case, only a high quality image will be accepted. Now if there is another submission for this region in the queue already, it will also state that along with "only one will be accepted".

I wonder what Cjay will do if a game actually has more than one legitimate (and different) front cover?

It will happen, with EU releases for example.

But I've also seen this:

What about the older games where box art will be somewhat/very difficult to obtain? (e.g. NES games, Genesis games, Gameboy games, etc.)

Say, should we submit the images as BMPs and let him do the resizing or should we do that ourselves and send it as a JPG?

Not sure about this, but I can tell you I sent a .gif once and it was converted to a .jpg by the site so I guess they will do the same for a bmp. If your image is wider than 640 it will most likely also be resized for you. But personally I try to get this done well before submitting simply to make it easier for CJay ;)
jelly soup | Posted 5/16/2007 5:00:45 PM | message detail
SO.

Should I aim for an image that is 640px (seeing as that's the limit)?

I doesn't matter, it will be reduced later if it is too big.

What about the older games where box art will be somewhat/very difficult to obtain? (e.g. NES games...

If you don't have the game boxes yourself, which would obviously be best, then go search for them ;) NA games are generally easy, large size Famicom/GB games will be long quest. But why not leave it to the people who actually have the games, it seems plenty of people want to contribute.

To be safe, I'd say just follow the rules for sending in maps.

"But why not leave it to the people who actually have the games, it seems plenty of people want to contribute."

Oh I have plenty of the games. What I meant was, as any gamer with older-generation games can attest to, the boxes for many older games were not sold with the games unless the games were bought new, usually that is.

As jelly soup suggested, though, the internet would probably have box art of them somewhere.

An alternative to the box art, at least for most NES games, would be the picture on the cartridge. As far as I know, the majority of NES cartridges have the same picture on them that's on the front box cover.

It wouldn't be as if an actual picture of the box art couldn't later be submitted, of course.

CJay actually cleared the entire queue, I bet in total i was well over 1,500 images.

You're right about the old games, and I think plenty of my boxes are nowhere near mint condition. I've seen some crappy scans already though, so it might not matter too much.
Crazyreyn | Posted 5/17/2007 1:53:20 AM | message detail
I've sent in plenty of scans, some have marks and all, they got accepted. As long as they are pretty clear they should get accepted it seems. As long as there are no massive stickers or tears, anyway. Give it a shot.

And you gotta assume that 1500 are sets of two (at least) so that's 750 games. Although that is still quite a lot. ;)

Hmm, the ones with reflective surfaces, words, or logos are annoying to scan. They don't show up correctly.

Personally, I prefer scaling and converting to JPG myself before submission. That way I'm sure of the quality of the image. I don't know what tools CJ uses to batch resize/convert, but it may or may not do a decent job.

I've scanned and converted to JPG, but haven't resized. My feeling is that whatever tools CJayC has are going to be better than mine (I'm no Photoshopper), and so sending the original, unchanged file will be better for preserving the quality of the image than were I to mess around with it.
