Just to follow up for people worried about the FAQ splitting: The option to split up a FAQ will not be on by default, and only intentionally selectable by the user or turned on when a low-memory browser is detected (i.e. one that probably couldn't view the guide in the first place). I imagine that very few people are going to be using that feature, or even know it exists. If you ever get an e-mail from someone who complains that the splitting feature breaks your guide, you can safely assume they're clueless and relegate them to the "lack of common sense" bin in your inbox. --- Once upon a time everything was lovely, but that was before I had to deal with people. |

The footer seems wrong on the split FAQ. And I guess it might be a good
idea to list numerically the links for each split page so that I don't
have to click 14 times on "Next Page" to get to the 15th page (But I
guess I could easily alter the number at the address bar to get to the
desired page number, since it might be troublesome for FAQs with lots
of pages). Splitting the FAQ considerably benefits people with slow
Internet connections, since they do have a hard time viewing the whole
FAQ. --- "The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us." (Bill Watterson) |

KK, you make it sound like this is some crucial life-or-death situation here. >_> Lately, there's been a lot of website redesigns that are very ugly (Somethingawful and IMDB, for example). But not only are they ugly, they look pretty much the same. It's like all the websites in the world are striving to look alike. I long for the days of simple design, and I think having a link to a text file that's just a text file is part of that. Maybe it's needless nostalgia, but it's the trends over the Internet in general, not so much here, that make me apprehensive. --- No matter what they say, or what threats they make, or wars they start, always, always, always, MAKE 7UP YOURS!! |

Looks clean and neat. I like it; would definitely improve the image of

actually doing anything). I'm still queasy about this "Recommend this FAQ" thing. It helps the community, but it's never been particularly popular on Site Suggestions. appear? In other words, is it the act of clicking on the file you want

Let's try to stay on topic, guys. How about that files rating to be posted on the header? Maybe even start to rank them by rating instead of alphabetically? Well, I guess that could lead to sabotage and what not...just an idea. |

at the FAQs from Google, external sites etc, interfere with the way
hits appear? In other words, is it the act of clicking on the file you
want to view that adds on a hit, or is it just turning up on the FAQ
page itself? Well, some sites like Gamewinners can now link directly to the FAQs, and if my hits went up as people from other sites look at my guides, I can have a more specific idea as to how many people on the internet as a whole are looking at my guides. |

How about that files rating to be posted on the header? Maybe even start to rank them by rating instead of alphabetically? As I mentioned before, I kinda object to this on the grounds that it has the potential to become a vote stuffing contest instead of what a rating system should be. You could set it up so that only registered members with lets say X karma (A low amount, to avoid chain voting on multiple new accounts) could vote on FAQs but then you are denying a sizable portion of the people who visit GameFAQs that right. I guess in the end, it's a thin slab of ice; Perhaps one could open it with free voting for all and if gets abused, make changes and learn from the mistakes. --- Any Argument can be won if you argue correctly. |

I like the idea of being able to give other sites access to the guides,
I enver thought of it that way. Like the FAQ sites that are forever
e-mailing people about their FAQs, but people don't want to have to
update their guides at 15 different sites, perhaps those sites could
link to the wrappers instead (in some cases, not all, obviously). --- Tell me that past times wont die, tell me that old lies are alive... o.O Push button to turn on. Play with button to drive wild... |

the early version where anyone could vote wasn't really used that much.

I'll start off by saying this looks great and that I was expecting
something far more intrusive. I still have a couple of questions though: 1. Will there be something on the FAQ/Guides page that says if the guides are wrapped or not? 2. Since people will be able to come to the guides from just about anywhere now, is there a way we could maybe have a list of sites that are linking to our guides? 3. This isn't technically a question, but when I view both of the guides with Firefox the banner at the bottom of the page is the top part of the grey Gamespot box at the bottom of every page: When I view it in IE though it's fine so I'd assume it's something with my settum, I just though it should be mentioned in case it happens to anyone else. --- (>ò_ó)>---{[=(>x_x)> |

Looking good. If you'd want to accomodate people who wish to be able to click through to the text file without the intermediate "View/Download Original File" step, that could be made an option on the account settings level too. Have an option for contributors to turn it off for their own files, and an option for any user to turn it off for any FAQ they view (assuming, of course, they are logged in at the time). The wrapper shows up only if both options are set to on (with the latter defaulting to on when not logged in). --- And he treated the rats as equals - which was right. I like the idea of how page breaking is optional, because as people
have said, it could screw over let's say, an ASCII map or something. Also, would the header be toggled on/off? Just a question, it does look pretty useful. I would also suggest "Print FAQ", but for larger portions, you could highlight the parts you want printed. And if the FAQs are downloadable, you could always have the downloaded FAQ check for updates on GameFAQs upon opening it, but that'd take a nifty amount of coding to so so. --- Buffalo Bills, Boston Red Sox Sports Heroes: Thurman Thomas, Jim Kelly, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz |

So...will this header also be applied to images? I don't see why it wouldn't. I also noticed that since the FAQs have page breaks, because some of them are rather large, and it would be easier for 56K users, how would the images be handled? I know when I would get on my brothers computer (he's on 56K), it would take a while for any map to load. --- If it's meant to be, then it's not meant for me. I only get spam and contributions/constructive criticsm but no
hatemail. Maybe that's why I would like such a system. Perhaps It
should be implemented beta and if massive abuse occurs just be shut
down or be optional by the contributor too. Maybe even optional for
every file. So if you have a completed file and don't want to ar
anything about it, not even thank you for writing this then you turn it
off, if you file is partial complete people can send in additions and
other feedback and thank you letters. --- I don't care who your dad is! While I'm fishing here nobody walks over the water! -> www.selmiak.de.vu |

I like the idea of a feedback system. On one hand, it'll cut down on
the number of people who feel the need to sign my e-mail up for spam.

The header looks perfect; it's small, neat, and fairly inconspicuous -- exactly what I was hoping for. As for the feedback system, I'm kind of against it, but it's really only because I don't want comments to be divided between my email address and then a feedback system.
