Contrib Hits Update - Current Design, Today's Hits

CJayC | Posted 3/6/2007 10:06:29 PM | message detail
The contribution hits page has been updated to the current site design, and has yet another new column: Today's Hits. This is a count of the hits your work has received since midnight (although, for today only, since 6PM yesterday), cached hourly (i.e. only will be updated an hour after your last check of that page).

I like the look, too. But I found a mistake in my Hits page:

As you can see, I have two FAQs for FF4 Advance, but on my Hits page, it says I have an FF Anthology walkthrough. I've never once made a FAQ for that; the only PS game I've wrote for is a Challenge guide for TMNT. Can you fix this, or is it stuck like this?

It's sort of random which game gets titled when you have a guide that's crosslinked to multiple titles without the (system) notation after it. But you get the idea.

I was wondering why I had a Megaman Anniversary file on my Hits list, but now I realize that it's probably because Megman 4 is cross linked to it.

I sort of liked it when the files were listed from A-Z. Still looks nice, though.

It only disturbs me a Wii bit. The Wii version has only sold about twice what the GCN version has. 20 times is a bit excessive, but I can live with it. :-)

that's a cool new feature.
But the random order of the files makes me crazy. For some games I have written 2 guides, one in englis and one in german and there is nowai to differ between them, as for one file the english one is the first one listed, for another one it is the second one listed.

Good job CJayC. I see that the list is now sorted by the alphabetical system order, rather than the games in alphabetical order, but no worry, I'll be able to adapt to it. Nice to see the page in NeoClassic Blue as well now. What causes the rest of the pages in Contributor Central (all upload/submission pages, feedback, and a few others) to be displayed in old view?

Also, any chance of the FAQ/Review Ratings returning soon? Those didn't last too long.

It seems to me that the system/game bit should be separated from the actual name of the file itself. For example, my Wii Guide shows up as:

Wii Hardware (WII) Wii Networking Guide

Not very neat looking.

I would rather see the system/game information go in the middle, between the file name and the hits. Ideally I think it should be a click-able link that takes you to that game's page, but that isn't exactly critical.

One other small thing: can you make separate submissions for a game alphabetically organized too, i.e. like on the game's guide page, with FAQs at the top, then in-depth, then images organized alphabetically? It's a bit weird to have order such as

Labyrinth (NES) Area 13(Castle) Map 0 0 0 0 9 46
Labyrinth (NES) Area 2 (Hedge Maze) Map 0 0 0 0 11 53
Labyrinth (NES) Area 7 (Town Maze) Map 0 0 0 0 3 29
Labyrinth (NES) FAQ/Walkthrough 0 0 0 1 46 153
Labyrinth (NES) Area 8 (Stairs Maze) Map 0 0 0 0 2 25

When it would be better as

FAQ
2
7
8
13

Picky stuff again, especially since the game page in this case is not 100% organized, but I might as well ask to see what's realistic.

It's sort of random which game gets titled when you have a guide that's crosslinked to multiple titles without the (system) notation after it. But you get the idea.

It's a nitpick as it's clear enough this way too, but I'm having this issue even with a guide that has *not* been crosslinked (Diablo II, game exists on PC and Mac, guide is for PC and not crosslinked from Mac, but shows as Mac on this list).

.Generally, I like the new layout. And my critique has already been mentioned: I'd also prefer if for the FAQs, not everything would be written directly in succession, but have different columns at least for the filename, maybe also for the system.

I'm confused. The new page still shows all the hits that a single file gets if it's crosslinked but it might not show up as the system you submitted it for on the page? Is that right?

Having the file's title anchored (linked to the FAQ so folks can check which is which) might provide enough separation from game and platform.

Adding a numeric class, setting text-align:right for the numeric columns, could alleviate some of the squishiness.

Also, it looks like the body class is inset a couple pixels (left and right) to the head class....?

Feedback only, and FWIW of course. You know we adore all your efforts here.
