Spliff's NeoPets guide looks fine, although there were a few places that could do with a blank line between paragraphs. While I'm not judging on quantity, that and the two reference guides for GT4 are beaten by Coffee's very clear guides.

7 - Super Slash
58 - Ny0Cloud
Very difficult to call; Ny0Cloud has some nice work, but I think the balance tips slightly to Super Slash.

11 - ElectroSpecter
54 - TheeMikester
ElectroSpecter definitiely has the more polished and consistent format of the two (even if it could be argued that there are too many boxed-in blocks of text). I also prefer the writing style over TheeMikester.

15 - dmon2
50 - honestgamer
Another tough call. Honestgamer has a number of novel formatting tricks where I like the intention, but they don't always work quite as well as I think they could (e.g. the "Pokemon Listing"s in FireRed/LeafGreen could really do with a bit more space separating them from the text flowing around them; although I like the slanting-boxed comments). However, Dmon2's much simpler format suffers from not-very-well wrapped paragraphs (numerous places where the first word or two of a line would fit on the end of the previous line). In the end, my vote goes to Honestgamer for trying something different, and getting pretty close.

BTW, if I sound like I'm concentrating on format in these reasons, it's only because there's nothing to pick between candidates as far as content/writing style.

19 - Thuyker
46 - Darkstar Ripclaw
Some, not all, of Darkstar's writing style jarred a little, and occasionally layout could be clearer; Thuyker is just good, solid and has my vote.

23 - Xiamut
42 - Zyre
Almost an abstain here; both have the odd problem with writing style, but in the end the ASCII maps and flow-around text of Zyre's WindWaker FAQ/Walkthrough swung it.

27 - black hole sun
38 - NightMare185
NightMare185's writing style and grammar grated a little too much for me, although Black Hole Sun isn't perfect (Castle Wolfenstein often confuses when to have an apostrophe). BHS is much better, though, and has some good layout.

31 - PeaceNLove
34 - Admiral
Oh so very, very finely balanced. Despite the fact that I nominated PeaceNLove for the tourney (your GBA BoF guide was a great help), objectively, Admiral _just_ sneaks ahead (but it's only by a head).

Quick, Kaas, close the wrong topic! - Sashanan

Too tired today to post full reasons (though it'd be nice if at least one person in each topic went indepth)

3) Coffee

7) Super Slash
Many of the reasons I gave to Ktm yesterday apply here to SS. Ny0Cloud needed to get his version histories down to the bottom, and needed line breaks.

11) ElectroSpecter
15) dmon2
Too much fluff in some of Venter's FAQs, and some FAQs need to be reworked (ie. Mantra/Skills FAQ for DDS)

ABSTAIN (Both authors are pretty solid)

23 - Xiamut
27) black hole sun
34) Admiral
47) Kurasu Soratobu

Reasons stated yesterday.

To all of those whom voted against me or otherwise abstained, I would like to ask, what didn't you like about my work/found inferior in quality to my opponent Thuyker? This is asking because I only got one criticism, which did not really have enough elaboration to it. I am easily willing to make changes where it would make sense to do so, whether out of availability, of readability, or of aesthetics.

DarkstarRipclaw,

I'll try to respond. First, although this is the first time I've taken part in a tourney, I noticed a couple of general things straightaway: 1) There's a lot of luck in who a writer comes up against; several of the "losers" in tie-ups I've voted on are very good, and "deserve" to go through in their own right, and could be better than a winner in a different tie. 2) Some decisions are very hard, and I've sometimes just had to go with a "gut feeling", without being able to consciously articulate why.

That's the generalities; I'll try to give some specifics about your guides. Not all of these are "negatives", nor even criticisms; often they are just "things I noticed" that "jarred" or interrupted the smooth flow of information in some way. Very many of them are personal preferences.

1. Don't use TABs; expand them to spaces. Depending on the browser, the zoom level, etc., these can space text out completely differently.

2. In most writing, you should either use blank lines between paragraphs or indent the first line, but not both. On-screen, my preference (and I think the consensus) is for blank lines and flush-left first lines.

3. Uneven "tabular" sections: for instance, look just above the "S L E E P W A L K I N G" (1AGSL) section of your Warlocked guide. Each block of text is indented by the length of the wizard name, giving an uneven look. Also, I don't see the need for putting the text in parentheses. I would prefer something like:

.......Quakewiz......blah blah blah blah
..............................blah blah blah blah
.......Stormwiz...... blah blah blah blah
............................. blah blah blah blah
............................. blah blah
.......Poxwiz.......... blah blah blah blah
............................. blah blah blah

Similar "lack of structure" detracts slightly from the enemy stats throughout your Radiata Stories guide.

4. Writing style. Overall, I don't think you have anything much to worry about here. In going through 16 collections of work yesterday to cast my eight votes, I cannot remember specific problems with your writing; today I'm having a hard time trying to isolate one or two sentences that I can point to and say "this is what I don't like".

As far as the writing goes, I think there must have been very little in it between the two of you, but I must have stumbled across a few examples in your work that pulled me up short while reading. That, plus the (not show-stopping) formatting issues above was what swayed the (close) vote.

Thinking about it again, starting off with a comment on the writing probably gives it more emphasis than I meant. On another day, with a different random sampling of paragraphs, I might not even have commented.

One thing I really did like in your Radiata Stories guide is the "Checklist" in each section; one of the problems with an RPG is knowing what "needs" to be done in each place, and when they're just listed in the "do this then head north and fight that..." body of text, it's easy to miss something vital.

In the end, I think getting knocked out of a tie-up here is much like getting knocked out of the World Cup (the "soccer" one that's on at the moment) on penalties: If a match gets to penalties, it's (usually) because there's been so little to chose between the two teams for 90/120 minutes. Nobody really likes a penalty shoot-out, because it _can_ be so random. Similarly, if two almost-evenly matched writers get drawn together, the effect of the slightest "defect" can get magnified out of proportion to its importance, just to decide the match.

Yeah, I am not doing so well, so could you give me tips?

I know my old guides are horse**** and my TOCA guide is too (I was going to take it down but it is the only guide up, and I can't get past the damn tenth tier to finish the guide), but what could I do to make them better?

I know the lack of votes has something to do with my popularity here, but what should I do to fix the guides?
