I am kinda sad at CjayC...

So, when you acess the site from a public computer, will you be logged in, too? Or when a friend of yours wanna see it?
First, your scenarios don't address the issue. Rock was in shock that more regular users hadn't raised a stink over the prestitials. I simply pointed out that most regular users hadn't even seen the prestitials, so why would there be a hue and cry?
Second, your scenarios are not real common things for a lot of people. I don't know about you, but I neither use public computers nor go over to friends' houses and show them GameFAQs. You're getting desperate to try to show why prestitials are going to "kill GameFAQs". They're not, just like they haven't killed any of the other sites that use them.
It always makes me curious when people defend big business. You realize that any large corporation wants nothing more then to make as much money as possible regardless of how they do it.
It always makes me curious when people attack big business because they exist to make a profit. One wonders if such people aren't just looking for handouts and want everything given to them without having to pay anything. It especially makes me curious since you're not even being asked to pay, you just have to put up with some ads--ads that aren't even on the actual FAQs, like a lot of other sites do.

PapaGamer, obviously what I've said was just an example. My point is
that we won't always be at home, with our nice ways to block the ads
and all that. We should also think of that kid who comes to the site
once per month, and will have to face X ads before seeing what he wants.
Ok, I fully understand the point of ads, but not too many ads! What will be next, ads every 20 lines of my reviews? (and yeah, I am being ironic, in case nobody noticed)

"While it's true that CJay didn't deny the
possibility of "premium" accounts in the future, that doesn't mean
everyone's going to have to pay just to view a guide or a review... it
just means there might be other features later on that people could pay
to use. Personally, I hope that happens some time."
Did this set off anyone else's BS detector? It set mine off. GameFAQs lives because of contributors. If there are going to be special features for any group of people, it should be the contributors. NOT people who give CJayC money. It's bad enough that people who came here with a paid gamespot account get better features than regular members. If any premium account garbage starts where members who pay money get better treatment than the contributors who keep this site alive, I will pull everything I have contributed off of this site and urge others to do the same.

Nobody would give CJ any money at all. The money goes to CNet, which now owns GF.

Whatever. My point still remains: contributors make this site what it is, and they shouldn't have to pay for extra features.

One thing that anoys me is that the feature to restrict the use of your
guides to gf only doesn't work. And as things develope there is no real need
for the feature to work as all these ****ed up sites are affiliates and
share content and ads. But I only want my guide on gf and neoseeker and
sometime on some other sites. It's easy to say it's not working when
you don't want it to be working. Perhaps it's just for me,that it
doesn't work the please let me know, and I'll submit a problem report
and wait 2 years for it to work, cuz until then gf is complete gs.

I've heard complaints about it not working before so it's either universal or at least not just you.
Personally I'm not too bothered by it, though. I like my guide being *hosted* only here and on a few specific other sites so that I have some control over version updates and such, but as far as I'm concerned, the entire net is free to link to them. Means easy access for a potentially bigger audience with no practical difference for me.

Do you people see where this is going? Premium acounts... :(
I just sent a comment to CjayC about this, I hope he answers me. I wrote this, and if you disagree with the path the site is currently taken, maybe you should at least try to contact him, too.
Here's exactly what I wrote:
Mr. Jeff "CJayC" Veasey,
I obviously understand that you're the sole person who is in full control of the site, but I wanted to admit that I don't quite like the path that it is taking.
Ever since the beginning, this has a been a site made by the contributors and a way to share gaming information with those who need it. However, nowadays none of those two premises seem to apply.
First, we are now told about "Premium Accounts" and that they may carry "a few extras". If someone deserved extras, wouldn't they be the people who try to contribute for this same site, above a few chosen ones who can pay some more dollars? I think so.
Second, the most important thing about the site is certainly information. Unlike what seemed to happen years ago, its approval seems to be taking more and more time, with certain types of contribution taking something like 30 days to be approved. This certainly discourages people to contribute, as they can't get an important information online when they want to, and when most people will need it.
Third, I obviously understand that things have to change along time, but if you think about it you are slowly breaking all the promises you made us in the past, back when we became part of Cnet. It's perhaps strange to hear this from me, but seeing how nice you used to be years ago (back in the time of mini-reviews and all that) and how you are now, I (and perhaps many other people) feel like we can't trust you anymore...
Finally, it is a pity that our community seems to be turning into just a small appendix to Gamespot. We seem to get everything from them, even things that nobody around here cares about (I admit it, it's been months since I've went lower than the "Poll of the Day" area), and what do they get from us? Simply FAQs and codes. If we have to stand so much stuff from them, why don't they get our reviews and saves too? While this is obviously a minor issue, why can't we even block them from having our works? The form which should be used for it doesn't seem to work very well, and besides me there are surely many other people who are unhappy to have our site turned into "Gamespot Gamefaqs". Believe it or not, me and many other people have personal issues concerning Gamespot, and I would like to keep as much distance from them as possible. A banner with "Gamespot" in there would probably just upset us a lot...
Hope to get some answers from you, please.
That's all, thanks for your time,
[my real name here]

Any accounts that need money would be crap, why should contributers have to pay to contribute?
There's a topic on Site Suggestions that's got a big thing telling every contributer to take down all their stuff if they don't stop bastardizing the site, I say we should.

What we need, TC, is to create a hub site we can direct everyone to
while we get this settled out. It's obvious a new Gamefaqs has to be
created by us, the users. If you could assist me in this, I am very
angry over this and I'm very willing to get the users off this forsaken
website.

The problem is it's a lose-lose. Let's assume somehow you got those
responsible for 90% of the contributions together and jointly pulled
everything. What then? CNET owns gamefaqs so if the site had its
lifeblood removed, they would probably fire CJayC and makewww.gamefaqs.com
a redirect to Gamespot. If fewer but still a large number of
contributions were removed, they'd simply put more ads on the page to
make up for the lowered number of hits which would be an incredibly
self defeating purpose for us. This site isn't very important to them,
and they have all the power so ultimately we can't win, simply choose
how we lose. And since ultimately our only tool is to remove
contributions, we seem quite stuck.
I would say that if you're able to unite the contributors in the cause and threaten to remove the contributions en masse, you might be able to get concessions out of CNet, but that's a big maybe. That's also to say nothing of the organizational impossibilities of such an endeavor. Contacting and convincing all the contributors to join in this cause would be nigh impossible as a. many will not agree with the cause b. many of the contributors have since left gamefaqs and are unable to be reached and c. many of the contributions are from contributors like me who only have one contribution(or some other small number) so in order to make this sort of movement successful you'd have to contact a lot of people, each of whom individually offers almost nothing. Also, the only person really capable of contacting all the contributors to inform them of such an idea is CJayC himself, and he would lose his job very quickly if he tried something like that. You also have to remember that CNet doesn't care to be quite frank so if we became too big of a problem they'd simply kill the site.
I do agree that ultimately this site is spiriling downward to ruin and is betraying much of what it once was, but on the other hand, it is only doing what it must to survive. It may ultimately come to pass that not even this can save it andwww.gamefaqs.com will be no more.

^Yes I understand how it is an extremely daunting task, but there are ways to do it. I don't except
to get even the majority of people in our first go, but we would
continue to pull people from here. When things go like this, unfair and
all, with no signs of stopping, you have to do something. We can't sit
here and do nothing, I bet mods are preparing some sort of "Being
Unhappy About The Change Is Moddable". Things need to be done.

Six years ago, on a different internet, it was possible to run a different GameFAQs.
I do not believe it's still possible today, but if it is, I'm sure somebody will get around to doing it - and I'll be joining its forums and submitting my guides there. As it is, I'll stick with what I still consider the best place for my material, even if I preferred its earlier incarnations.

It's the no power thing, I'm sure of it. Think about it. If you created
and put a good part of your life into maintaining an immensely popular
and (mostly) respectable site, would you want to see it changing into
this? Riddled with so many unnecessary and sometimes even offensive
ads, a design so generic it makes your eyes bleed, being treated as a
subsection of some other site? I wouldn't be surprised if he's been
fighting tooth and nail against every addition that has been causing so
many complaints around the boards. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the
only reason we aren't entirely merged with GameSpot is because CJayC is
still trying to keep the site together.
...Alright, so there's absolutely no proof or even a bit of evidence to what I'm saying, but I like to think of it all this way.

I fully believe on today's internet it is possible to have a
non-corporate GameFAQs site. Without CNet, you'd get many more offers
for advertising. This would drive the prices for the advertising up.
You wouldn't need this high number of ads, just the old one on the side
and the ability to put different pages into styles.
What is going on now, is GameFAQs is being swallowed by CNet. It's not what I want. I had no problems with the ads before they ate the website. Advertisements are a part of having a website.
If we had a strong enough core of leaders, we could easily create a new GameFAQs. The first thing to go would be off-topic moderations on hidden boards.

King of Mars, if that's the truth, we will probably know it when (or better, "if") I manage to get some answers from him.
Sashanan, it was indeed a compliment. As you are no longer a moderator I am free to say it (or else people would say I was trying to please you), but you were one of the nicest people I've ever seen in this site. Also, from what I could ever understand, you were the third person in control, above SB and CjayC himself, but maybe I was wrong! o_O Anyway, if anyone can get some answers from someone upside, it is indeed you!
Magus77, it depends on your browser. On IE, creating a custom CSS will do it.

Well, let's make a basic forum on some cheap free site and start
recruiting people. The endevor, which I have already thought about,
would have to begin with the new generation of games. There's no way
I'm making people code webpages for Atari or Jaguar systems. We'll
start with the PSP, DS, 360, PS3 and Revolution. That way, any new
games that come out, we'll have them covered over Gamefaqs. Then, with
expansion of the site, we could go back to the NES and SNES.
But to begin, we'll need a cheap-as-free forum where we can start from. (But the main idea would be to, in the end, have a forum similar to the original Gamefaqs, very basic.)

Bear in mind, there are a great many sites out there, big and small,
doing the "FAQs + forums" thing, but GameFAQs is one of the few that
does older systems in addition to newer ones.
If you hope to stand out a little, don't discard the oldies too quickly. That's one of the things you can distinguish yourself with.

Putting in the old FAQs would be a daunting task for a fresh and upstart site. If you want
to take the heart out of GameFAQs, you have to start with the
beginning. If you can get the FAQs for the new games, then you have a
chance at bringing a ton of more traffic to your site.
The only problem this presents is the Revolution will play NES-N64, GEN, and Turbo-Graphx, and I have no doubt that the Saturn will be playable eventually. At some point after the main site's been established, we'd have to add those systems on.
What are these other sites? I'd like to see them. It could be beneficial.

Well, for starters, try visiting Gamerankings.com, who collect and
average game review scores - you'll find dozens of sites that do game
reviews from there, and while not all of them do FAQs too, many do.
Or you could just google "[insert popular game name] FAQ" and watch hundreds or thousands of hits roll in.

Ehh, I'm not convinced. I am talking about a blatent, rip-off clone of
GameFAQs. I've seen the sites you mean, even Gamespot tried that.
But I don't want to do that, I want to do this.

Your best bet for a project like that would be to cofound it with a lot
of the really big contributors here and then have all those FAQs from
the get-go. Sure, it wouldn't make you stand out any(I doubt many would
want their stuff pulled from here for the sake of such a project), but
it would at least give you some sizable content.

Just noticed yet another evil; at the bottom of the game info page for
a random game I looked up I discovered that the screen shot link to the
VGMuseum is gone. I checked some other games to find that now only
gamespot is allowed to provide things like media. See how their getting
you without you knowing it?
If their knocking out fringe free contributors how long till they work their way down to the main line? I wonder what ReyVGM was told when they axed the links to his site, maybe he doesn't even know. Maybe you won't even know when some crafty lawyer announces on the front page that all guides on the site now belong to CNET.

Breathe in.
Breathe out.
You're overestimating the abilities of "crafty" lawyers. They cannot simply steal the copyrights to thousands of documents. Some of the hyperventilating over the abilities/desires of "the evil corporate CNet" is a little far-fetched.
To say the least.

Appears I've just found the next step on the destruction of Gamefaqs: no links to VGmuseum .

Well, we should start gathering the FAQs, then borrow the LL template and get a site going. This is a massive undertaking.
My site would have VGMuseum links.

For all I know the links may just have been forgotten in the new template.
You could try a petition on Site Suggestions, or just do an Ask GameFAQs feedback ticket asking why they're gone.

Sashanan, even on the old template they seem to have disappeared. I tried that yesterday.

I don't feel sorry for CjayC, he gets more respect than he deserves.
I'm also angry with him becuase he closes every topic that he creates.
How ignorant it that? There wouldn't be any harm in not closing them.

What, MBA and Daily Grind? MBA was made read only because every topic
he made would fill up with random filler posts only (people going "hi!"
or "FIRST!" or counting posts) - what few serious questions popped up
would be drowned out by it. Once MBA went read only, such questions
would instead go to MBH where they'd actually be able to get answered.
I imagine Daily Grind just followed MBA's example because making the topics writeable would just cause a repetition of the old nonsense.

If there are going to be special features for any group of people, it should be the contributors.
Tell that to all the random folks who poured into the FAQ Contributors board when CJayC posted the topic there about making the site ad-free for prolific contributors. Ironically enough, every single person who posted to argue or complain there did not have a contributor page or any apparent will to contribute anytime soon.
Crap like that makes me wish that the FAQer/Reviewer boards should be closed off to people who don't have contributor pages already linked to their accounts, and/or haven't submitted a FAQ/review before. >_<
...At least such topics on the FCB don't get flooded with dumbass responses, since the resident mod jumps into action relatively quickly. I won't have any of that crap over there. >_>

How can you tell if someone has the will to contribute something soon? For example, can you tell, just by looking at my profile, that my first guide is in progress? Can you tell that the walkthrough is beyond the 40% complete mark?
My point is that you may be making unwarranted assumptions in some cases
