Game FAQ Writer Survey
From: GhostOfLegault | Posted: 5/6/2006 2:21:51 AM | Message Detail
CONTINUED IN PREVIOUS POST

15. In what ways do you feel you’ve benefited or hope to benefit from writing FAQs?

My writing skills have improved a lot from FAQing, as well as a wide range of vocabulary. Not only do I do extremely well with writing essays in school because of FAQs, but I sound a lot smarter (not that I wasn’t smart to begin with ;] ) and I have a lot of people, even my parents, comment on the complex words that I use in regular talk.

16. How long do you plan to continue writing FAQs for?

I don’t have a set date or time; I’m sure it’ll get old after a while. Possibly some time in college, where work will most likely overwhelm my life.

17. What are your other passions or hobbies do you have? Are these reflected in your writing, or perhaps your writing is reflected in your hobbies?

Video games rock, of course. While I don’t play sports at school (other than Track), I do enjoy playing football and volleyball with my friends. We usually get together every weekend and play either sport (usually football in the fall/winter and volleyball in the spring/summer). I also like to draw. While I don’t find myself to be particularly good at it and I haven’t drawn a picture in a while, I still find it to be enjoying.

18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?

I have won a FAQ of the Month and a FAQ Bounty (totaling up to around $75) so far. Other than that, I haven’t received any money for my FAQs. I wouldn’t mind getting paid by someone; FAQing does consume a lot of time and hey, writing FAQs is hard work. Fun, but hard.

1. How old are you?
17

2. How long have you been writing FAQs for?
Going on three years now, I guess.

3. When and how were you introduced to writing game FAQS, and why did this appeal to you?
I started by filling gaps in the FAQs for games I played.

3. Does writing FAQs appeal to you for the same reason/s today as it did back then?
Yes and No. My Mapping of LttP (assuming I do it before someone else does, I'm so ****ing busy) is the same, but writing walkthroughs for games with other walkthroughs? Obviously I'm not filling much of a gap.

4. Do you feel that your FAQs or the writing of them has contributed to something or been beneficial to someone, how so?
I've gotten dozens of emails of gratitude about my FAQs, so I've got to assume I'm doing something right.

5. What sort of feedback have you received from gamers who’ve used your FAQ’s?
Depends on where you look- my first FAQ was written based on someone else's discovery after waiting a few months and not seeing the FAQ. People were pissed that I'd do that and hollered at me for stealing his work.. to this day, I say I was fine, as would any decent FAQ writer, but hey!

For Diablo 2 (where I've got about 40-50% of all of the uptodate FAQs by myself), half the forum loves them, and the other half hates them. Eh...

And then of course there are the compliments I get via email all the time.

6. What is the longest amount of time it took for you to write an FAQ? Have you ever played a game and written its FAQ without stopping (over a single weekend for example)?
Took me close to a year to get around to writing the FAQ for Power Rangers. It was my first full walkthrough, so I had to convince myself I wanted to do it... easier said than done.

A couple of my FAQs were done in two days. I've only got one FAQ that's long, so it's not very hard.

All of my Diablo 2 in-depth FAQs were done in a day if I was motivated, because after the first one I had a basic template where I only had to plug in the proper information and ta-da, I was done.

7. What’s the best game you’ve ever played, or if you can’t decide, some of your favorites?
Final Fantasy VI, of course. Amazingly fun RPG. Although I may never play it again, it will always keep a special place in my heart.

HOWEVER, I play Donkey Kong Country and Zelda: LttP on a regular basis on my SNES/GBA (I had them both on my SNES, but then my LttP cartridge broke and now I play it on the GBA).
No matter how many times I play these beauties, I still have HOURS of fun with them.

8. What is the best FAQ you’ve written?
Well, I've gotten two prizes off gamerhelp for one of my in-depth FAQs in Diablo 2. BUT, I much prefer my lylatt wars FAQ. Frankly, I much prefer writing a full walkthrough where I give COMPLETELY different strategies from the other guides.

S'why I feel like I should FAQ Ocarina of Time- their strategies SUCK.

9. How often if ever do you have to go back and modify or add to an FAQ?
As often as people remind me that I need to.
Except on my Diablo 2 ones. I'm too lazy to go back and fix most of the stuff... I really should, too.

Continued next post.

Q!

10. Why is writing FAQs so important to you, what does it mean to you?
It's not important- School takes all precedent, and I was in exams all of this week and will continue to be for the next two.

11. Most game FAQs are fairly humorous; do you feel this is an important aspect of them?
Hell, yes. It doesn't take away from the reading by putting in some jokes, and it allows you to write the FAQ without gouging your eyes out in boredom.

12. Many FAQs have graphics or logos at the top of them, how do you feel about these?
On a BIG FAQ (100KB and up), it's fine. Below that and you're KB whoring.

13. As a writer, what if anything bothers or even disgusts you about others’ FAQs?
I hate a disorganized FAQ. Pisses me off when I want to use a FAQ for a quick fix, and I CAN'T FIND WHAT I WANT.

14. Have you made any sacrifices or compensations as a result of writing FAQs?
If by compensations you mean "have I been paid", then yes.

15. In what ways do you feel you’ve benefited or hope to benefit from writing FAQs?
15 minutes of fame sort of a thing. In a pre-business environment of cutthroats, it's nice to just relax and write, and then you get the recognition for it? Yeah, good stuff.

16. How long do you plan to continue writing FAQs for?
Oh, who knows... as long as there's some motivation.

17. What are your other passions or hobbies do you have? Are these reflected in your writing, or perhaps your writing is reflected in your hobbies?
I'm a vocalist and musician. Neither one manifests itself in my work.

18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?
I've been paid by Gamerhelp, although it was a prize. I couldn't have cared less, since I won't claim it if they think they should tax me for it.

Q!

1. 14

2. A month. Haha.

3. To be honest, I started writing FAQs because my contributor page looked naked without any FAQs on it. I'm not kidding.

3. I haven't exactly been writing long enough to answer that question very well. I'd say yes, I guess, but I haven't had a chance to really evaluate that over time.

4. I certainly hope they've helped some people out. I do get a few emails every day about my FAQs, so I know that at the very least, people are reading them. I've had a few of those emails say "awesome guide, thanks" or something to that effect, so I guess yeah, my FAQs have been beneficial.

5. No criticism yet, which kind of bugs me, actually. Usually, I only get contacted with questions, but occasionally, I get a compliment or two. I've probably recieved the most praise for my humor, which is good.... I guess.

6. Well, my Syphon Filter FAQ is over a month old and still is only about 2/3 done. Then again, these last few months probably haven't been a good time to pick up FAQing, since I've got so much going on in school. Anyway, I guess that's as good of an answer as I can give.

7. I picked up gaming in around 2000 with Pokemon, so I haven't really experienced a lot of the classics, but I've tried to catch up... Just like everyone else, I'm a big fan of Chrono Trigger. I also really, really like Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. Apart from that... well, I really love Halo 2. Oh, and Fire Emblem 7 for the GBA is another one of my favorites.

8. Probably my Metal Gear AC!D deckbuilding FAQ, since it's the only one that I can truly say I've completed.

9. Well, I go back and modify my reviews all the time, so I assume I'll do the same with FAQs.

10. It gives me something to do.
No, seriously, I like FAQs because it really allows me to get into a game. I can honestly say that I wouldn't know half the things about Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror if I hadn't written an FAQ for it.

11. Actually, I'm rather proud of my ability to stick a joke into the occasional low points of my FAQs. I always try and throw in a bit of humor at the beginning or end of a mission, since it sort of draws the reader in a little, and makes them feel a little more... comfortable with the FAQ. Plus, FAQs that are just straight "turn left, turn right, press A" etc. are terribly boring.

12. I would use them if I wasn't so lazy. Other than that, I don't really care about them, unless they're noticeably good or bad, in which my opinion of the FAQ is going to be changed a little.

13. I really hate it when people don't use good grammar and spelling. On the message boards, I don't care so much, but when it comes to a "published" work like an FAQ, I want to see top-notch quality. I guess that's all I really care about.

14. Social life = drop down :( Well, not really, but FAQing has affected my social life and grades to an extent. It's no big deal, really; it's just something to do in my spare time.

15. One of these days, I want to get one of them FAQ bounties. That would be badass.

16. As long as I go to GameFAQs.

17. Actually, now that I think about it, I really don't have any hobbies apart from video games o_0. I do debate (and no, I'm not really a nerd, actually), and that has definitely strengthened my writing, but other than that, there's not really much to say here.
18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?

1. How old are you?
26

2. How long have you been writing FAQs for?
3 1/2 years.

3. When and how were you introduced to writing game FAQS, and why did this appeal to you?
A friend once mentioned that I should try my hand at writing an FAQ since I play games rather frequently, and so one day I got a game that I felt like I could make a good FAQ for and that was the beginning. I also saw that there was a bounty up for this game at GameFAQs.

3. Does writing FAQs appeal to you for the same reason/s today as it did back then?
Well, for the bounty part, no. I write FAQs based on how well I think I could do one for a particular game now.

4. Do you feel that your FAQs or the writing of them has contributed to something or been beneficial to someone, how so?
I get quite a few emails thanking me for my work so there are some people out there who enjoy it.

5. What sort of feedback have you received from gamers who’ve used your FAQ’s?
Usually a few "thank you" emails and I receive a few with suggestions on some info that I should add.

6. What is the longest amount of time it took for you to write an FAQ? Have you ever played a game and written its FAQ without stopping (over a single weekend for example)?
About a month and a half. My latest FAQ took me that long because I was constantly getting distracted by other newly released games. Plus it's the biggest FAQ that I've done.

7. What’s the best game you’ve ever played, or if you can’t decide, some of your favorites?
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES), Starfox64 (N64), Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (GC)

8. What is the best FAQ you’ve written?
Either Advent Rising or Fatal Frame III because those are the only two FAQs that I feel I have totally completed. I receive more comments on my Fatal Frame III FAQ so I guess you could say that it is the better one.

9. How often if ever do you have to go back and modify or add to an FAQ?
All the time. I constantly go back and add things based on reader emails and my own judgement.

10. Why is writing FAQs so important to you, what does it mean to you?
I enjoy helping people and it gives me satisfaction when I find out that my work actually helped someone. Also, I like to help others have the best experience with a game without the need to get frustrated.

11. Most game FAQs are fairly humorous; do you feel this is an important aspect of them?
Not at all. There is a time and a place for humor in a FAQ and when it is blown out of proportion it can get annoying.

12. Many FAQs have graphics or logos at the top of them, how do you feel about these?
Haha. I'm a huge culprit of big logos. They help to make your work a bit more eye-catching if they look good, but they're not important.

13. As a writer, what if anything bothers or even disgusts you about others’ FAQs?
When you can look through a FAQ and tell that the author did not at least glance over it before submitting it.

14. Have you made any sacrifices or compensations as a result of writing FAQs?
No.

15. In what ways do you feel you’ve benefited or hope to benefit from writing FAQs?
Well, I can certainly type a lot faster and it has helped me to improve my grammar and writing skills. I never did really like writing that much all the way through school, but I used to receive a bunch of complements based on my work, so I guess you could say that FAQ writing has helped to strengthen my will to write.

16. How long do you plan to continue writing FAQs for?
As long as I continue to play video games. For me, it's a little hard to play a new video game now without the need to write some kind of FAQ for it.

17. What are your other passions or hobbies do you have? Are these reflected in your writing, or perhaps your writing is reflected in your hobbies?
Not too many besides video games. I've tried other hobbies, but always wind up back to square one with the games once again. I've always had an interest in horror movies and anime also.

18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?
I've gotten paid for two guides that I wrote exclusively for Cheat Happens and I received a few rewards from GameFAQs, Gamerhelp, and IGN.

Thanks again.

No problem.

1. How old are you?
18

2. How long have you been writing FAQs for?
3 - 4 years. Unless you mean FAQs that were actually good. Then about 2 - 3 years.

3. When and how were you introduced to writing game FAQS, and why did this appeal to you?
I dunno. It was a challenge and I enjoy writing.

3. Does writing FAQs appeal to you for the same reason/s today as it did back then?
Yes.

4. Do you feel that your FAQs or the writing of them has contributed to something or been beneficial to someone, how so?
Well, given that my guides for even the most obscure games get at least a couple hundred hits a year, I'm helping somebody!

5. What sort of feedback have you received from gamers who’ve used your FAQ’s?
Pokemon FAQs: I usually get emails from kids telling me that 1) I made a mistake, 2) May/ash/a pokemon/someone else is hot, 3) telling me how much I suck, or 4) telling me how much I rock.
Other FAQs: Usually praise.

6. What is the longest amount of time it took for you to write an FAQ? Have you ever played a game and written its FAQ without stopping (over a single weekend for example)?
Longest amount of time would be Pokemon Emerald. It's still not done!
Shortest would be, probably, be Star Fox Assault. Took me a couple days?

7. What’s the best game you’ve ever played, or if you can’t decide, some of your favorites?
Oblivion, recently, Starfox 64, Ocarina of time, Star ocean 3, Battlefield 2.

8. What is the best FAQ you’ve written?
I think, probably my Urban Assault one.

9. How often if ever do you have to go back and modify or add to an FAQ?
Often, usually, but not lately.

10. Why is writing FAQs so important to you, what does it mean to you?
It's a hobby. A way to help people while enjoying myself.

11. Most game FAQs are fairly humorous; do you feel this is an important aspect of them?
It depends on the game. Humor can augment or detract in FAQs, as in any setting. It also depends on the skill of the writer.

12. Many FAQs have graphics or logos at the top of them, how do you feel about these?
Waste of space, but acceptable. The world is no longer run by people on dial up. The phone companies stopped caring about us long ago and I've accepted that. Besides, 2kb of text takes less than a second to load, even on dial up.

13. As a writer, what if anything bothers or even disgusts you about others’ FAQs?
When it's stolen, or just plain awful.

14. Have you made any sacrifices or compensations as a result of writing FAQs?
Air, sleep, food, the usual. No, it just makes playing the actual game a bit more challenging.

15. In what ways do you feel you’ve benefited or hope to benefit from writing FAQs?
It's made my a better writer, that's for sure.

16. How long do you plan to continue writing FAQs for?
Forever. Of course, due to college and work, I haven't in months.

17. What are your other passions or hobbies do you have? Are these reflected in your writing, or perhaps your writing is reflected in your hobbies?
Computers and writing about computer gaming...there's a connection there somewhere...

18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?
Never been paid, but I don't need to be. I don't do it for the cash.

1. How old are you?
15

2. How long have you been writing FAQs for?
2 1/2 years

3. When and how were you introduced to writing game FAQS, and why did this appeal to you?
Eh, I was reading a guide and thought "I could do better". And after that I started FAQ'ing and haven't stopped since.

3. Does writing FAQs appeal to you for the same reason/s today as it did back then?
Yeah. I do it as a recreation or in my spare time. Or in the time I should be working or something.

4. Do you feel that your FAQs or the writing of them has contributed to something or been beneficial to someone, how so?
The general community I suppose.

5. What sort of feedback have you received from gamers who’ve used your FAQ’s?
I recieve several e-mails each day on my walkthroughs. Usually their responses that people enjoyed a particular FAQ or giving me some information I left it/input incorrectly.

6. What is the longest amount of time it took for you to write an FAQ? Have you ever played a game and written its FAQ without stopping (over a single weekend for example)?
One walkthrough took several hundered hours to complete. Mass going back to game, writing a little bit, scouring for every last bit to make sure my FAQ is as complete as possible

7. What’s the best game you’ve ever played, or if you can’t decide, some of your favorites?
Metroid Prime, Super Mario 64 (DS), Starcraft

8. What is the best FAQ you’ve written?
Metroid Prime 2:Echoes. Took me the longest, is my biggest, and I felt proud of my work when I was finished.

9. How often if ever do you have to go back and modify or add to an FAQ?
Until its finished or I start another walkthrough. I eventually plan to go back to all of my guides and revise errors.

10. Why is writing FAQs so important to you, what does it mean to you?
To me its just a reason to allow my parents to let me mass play video games.

11. Most game FAQs are fairly humorous; do you feel this is an important aspect of them?
NO. Abosolutely NO. I guide is meant to inform, not humor. There can be a few jokes here and there, that's okay. But if every other sentence cracks some lame pun or a crappy joke, its a text-comic, not a FAQ.

12. Many FAQs have graphics or logos at the top of them, how do you feel about these?
I loathe them. Again, a FAQ is a way to help people. I couldn't give a damn about the stupid artwork (most of the time I can hardly understand what is represents) in FAQS. Also, their just KB fillers. Diagrams of maps and stuff are fine. Logos aren't.

13. As a writer, what if anything bothers or even disgusts you about others’ FAQs?
How incomplete they can be. For any hard task they can just say "Kill the boss in the next room. Continue on..." But there's at least 1 person on the earth who WILL have trouble. I provide insane detail in most of my guides. I hate confusing people, as I hate being confused by not understand other guides as well.

14. Have you made any sacrifices or compensations as a result of writing FAQs?
My grades. In the toilet after I started (except math. I can do that in my sleep).

15. In what ways do you feel you’ve benefited or hope to benefit from writing FAQs?
I just enjoy helping people...

16. How long do you plan to continue writing FAQs for?
Until I die...or am too busy to ever have time to contribute.

17. What are your other passions or hobbies do you have? Are these reflected in your writing, or perhaps your writing is reflected in your hobbies?
I have no hobbies, or anything of the sort.

18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?
I've won $150 in contests so far from my guides.

1. 14, will be 15 in august.

2. just about 2 months.

3. Well, i always use to browse this site for guides when i was younger and i love gaming so much, i decided i'd start. It makes me think about the game in a different way and has made me a better player.

3. I've only been doing it for 2 months so 4 isn't really applicable to me.

4. YES!!! i get lots of hits and feel like i'm writing a guide that will be used a lot.

5. Very positive, lots of questions about the games i play, and good compliments for the most part.

6. About 10 days, while i didn't play nonstop, whenever i was playing i always had the computer on and when something hit me i put it in.

7. The whole ghost recon series and rainbow six series is great. Battlefield 2 modern combat is good too, as well as the outfit.

8. Well, i've only written two a multiplayer guide for ghost recon advanced warfighter and a multiplayer guide for battlefield 2. I get a lot more feedback on my ghost recon FAQ and i think it's slightly better.

9. I modify it whenever i need to add something i think was important or whenever downloadable content comes out for my xbox 360 games.

10. I love gaming so much. it's probably my all time favorite hobby. I wan't to help people out ( i know, it sounds cheesy) because i got a lot of help when i was younger with these games, but i just love games, so anything to do with games is fun, plus it gives me something to do in my spare time.

11. absolutely. It makes the guide fun to read and thats what gaming is all about, fun! So yes. I hope i'm good at it but i don't think i'm funny.

12. I never do it, i just focus on the game. It just takes too much time and is just kind of boasting.

13. People who write it up poorly in general, and don't give you good info. Also guides that never get really completed.

14. Not really. I enjoy it, so thats why i do it, i have to give some time but i have fun. So no.

15. It's really made me a better player, and as I keep on writing maybe a company will pay me or something, but thats not why i do it. (another cheesy remark)

16. until i just don't want to. It's just something i really enjoy doing.

17. i enjoy playing sports in general, basketball especially and tennis as well. Also just watching sports is fun.

18. no. I'm just starting and i'm only 14, but i sure would enjoy that and would be interested in doing something like this for work, although who wouldn't.

Hope i've been helpful man. cool topic idea.

1. How old are you?
I'm 17 years old.

2. How long have you been writing FAQs for?
Since mid-2003, I think.

3. When and how were you introduced to writing game FAQS, and why did this appeal to you?
About year 2002, when I started reading FAQs about Pokemon. Then I got into some more Nintendo games and figured out I could also write guides for other folks.

3. Does writing FAQs appeal to you for the same reason/s today as it did back then?
Not as much, as I'm in college now so I don't have as much time to play games and type stuff. I also work on a Linux computer most of the time, and we all know there aren't a lot of games to play on that, and even if there are, the game pages for those games aren't on GameFAQs.

*looks at three month old game data Ceej hasn't checked yet* I could've written a FAQ for these...

4. Do you feel that your FAQs or the writing of them has contributed to something or been beneficial to someone, how so?
Yeah. I've gotten many e-mails over the years, mostly asking for more help (which I answered) and some kind words of appreciation. There was also a time when someone has e-mailed me how my FAQ was very understandable; this coming from a person who has visual disabilities and has to rely on text readers to read computer text.

5. What sort of feedback have you received from gamers who’ve used your FAQ’s?
Mostly on e-mail. Thankfully haven't had anyone call me on the telephone or send boxes to my house, that would be scary. XD

6. What is the longest amount of time it took for you to write an FAQ? Have you ever played a game and written its FAQ without stopping (over a single weekend for example)?
The longest I think was about a month. Maybe even longer, if you take in the time I was just procastinating and overthinking what to actually type in the FAQ.
I have also tried to complete a FAQ for a brand new game within a week.

7. What’s the best game you’ve ever played, or if you can’t decide, some of your favorites?
The MMZ games were particularly nice, as well as the Mario games.

8. What is the best FAQ you’ve written?
My guide for Mega Man Zero 4.

9. How often if ever do you have to go back and modify or add to an FAQ?
When my FAQ is newly released I often go back to it and modify as soon as reader feedback comes. However this has ceased to happen lately because I've been busy with my studies. Sometimes I do a complete overhaul if the formatting really sucks.

10. Why is writing FAQs so important to you, what does it mean to you?
It's important to me since I believe it's the only way I could contribute something very significant to the gaming scene while I'm still a student. Sure, I could help on IRC and forums, but nothing makes a lasting effect and sustainability than a FAQ hosted on this site.
For me, it means something like the equivalent of a school project, so I often try to type my best and even put into my schedule, if possible.

11. Most game FAQs are fairly humorous; do you feel this is an important aspect of them?
Yes, it is very important. While a serious tone is nice as well (like in some technical FAQs), some humor in a game FAQ adds a lot into how the player imagines the game, making you see things in some other insightful way.

12. Many FAQs have graphics or logos at the top of them, how do you feel about these?
It's very okay with me, as long as I can figure out what the logo is. It's all art, and art is good.

13. As a writer, what if anything bothers or even disgusts you about others’ FAQs?
Hmm, there are quite a few:
- incredibly long version histories
- very drawn-out copyright stuff, sometimes a few writers are too strict on how people use their guides
- guides that don't have paragraphs

14. Have you made any sacrifices or compensations as a result of writing FAQs?
Sometimes I wake up early and sleep late when writing FAQs I really like to write. But for some reason I happen to good in written English now; I even wrote a concept paper about FAQ writing. ^_^

15. In what ways do you feel you’ve benefited or hope to benefit from writing FAQs?
Well, I dream of writing a column in a game magazine. Or if that doesn't come, man pages for Linux apps lol

16. How long do you plan to continue writing FAQs for?
I haven't made plans to stop, so hey, I'd do it for as long as possible.

17. What are your other passions or hobbies do you have? Are these reflected in your writing, or perhaps your writing is reflected in your hobbies?
I haven't seen a relation with my hobbies and FAQ writing, other than FAQ writing is one of my hobbies.

18. Are you regularly paid or have you ever been paid for writing an FAQ or Guide? How do you feel about your particular situation whatever it may be?
The only payment I get is that I could be proud of my guide and show it for my parents, which sorta convinces them to increase my allowance every now and then. >_> I also got my surname on the front page of Google search results.

A++ great survey, would participate in again.

1. Early 30's. Old.

2. My first was around 1994 or 1995, but after doing a handful I stopped bothering for years. Until just recently when I submitted a new one. I may submit some more in the future, if I feel like it.

3. Through this site; when I saw the Primal Rage FAQ had a lot of missing information, I took it over and poured my heart and soul into it. I do it because I love the games I write about.

3. Partly. I still have the love of games. Nowadays, I also get the benefit of promoting my website.

4. It's been beneficial to people who play the games, I'm sure.

5. 90% is asking questions that are answered in the FAQs. 10% is thanks 'n' stuff.

6. The Primal Rage FAQ gained many revisions over the course of a year. Other FAQs were dashed off in a few hours at most, and had only token revisions.

I guess my DDR Mario Mix Script FAQ was done without stopping. Not like it was hard to do, and I was playing the game on a low difficulty at the time.

7. Mm, tough one. Favorites: Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II, EverQuest Online Adventures. Best... very, very subjective but for fighting games, Primal Rage & Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection (arcade); for RPGs, Grandia series (best combat/game mechanics, not best story).

8. Primal Rage FAQ is the most thorough probably, though it's really co-written since I took over another guy's FAQ after he retired. The Persona Guide for Revelations: Persona is the best for anyone just trying to survive the game.

9. Whenever someone points out a glaring error, until after a certain amount of time (year or two) has passed, then never.

10. It means expressing and sharing my love of games, and also lecturing other people about how to do this or that, two of my most favorite things.

11. Yes.

12. Too much work.

13. Not a fan of FAQ writers who make a fuss about how they hate you so don't waste time writing them about anything ever, or worse, don't make a fuss but who still hate you and will automatically delete any mail sent to them. If you don't want mail from people who read your FAQ, don't put your email address in the FAQ.

14. Sacrifices? Just time, effort, and sometimes, quarters playing the game for fun. Compensations? Free publicity for my website, free vainglory.

15. I hope people will visit my website and read my fanfic. That's about it.

16. I'll write FAQs whenever i feel like it, which could be once a month or once every ten years until I die. Unless GameFAQs goes away. Then probably never.

17. Other than video games? Anime, fantasy novels, manga, taking care of my cat. All four are definitely reflected in my writing. My writing is definitely reflected from my love of video games.

18. Never paid, never cared, not worried about it. My website has no revenue enhancement ads whatsoever, so I don't get paid if you visit it. Just the gratification of knowing someone might read my fanfic is enough.
