No launch details though, but the Wii looks amazing. Some great new DS games to boot.

I wasn't doing anything so I actually watched one of those online broadcast things. It was pretty neat. A little too many wacky features and arm flailing for my tastes, but certainly worth picking up whenever they release it.

The guy up on stage should have grabbed the mic and said "Where is Mother 3 and why can't I play Mario Galaxy? Grrr!"

But the Wii looks rather fun.

Ahhh the year I can't make it to E3, all the really awesome things happen (from Nintendo at least). Ah well, next year will be better once the Wii/PS3 are actually on the market, and the DS continues to dominate. ;)

I saw a lot of the Nintendo presentation on G4 tonight. Plus, they showed people trying out the controller on various games. It looked really, really sweet.

Like they showed one game where you use a gun and a sword. You point the controller at the screen to move and aim the crosshair of the gun. And you make a slashing motion with the controller to use the sword. Pretty cool.

Even Warioware looked fun, and normally, I hate the Warioware series.

And then Mario Galaxy on top of that... ooo.

By comparison, the PS3 stuff I've seen so far just looks like the same old games I've already played, except with better graphics.

The Revol... er, the Wii may end up being a lot cooler than I originally thought it'd be when I first saw the controller last year.

That was definitely the game I was least impressed with. It looks so generic like it was designed just so it could be the first real FPS to utilize the system's featurs. A sort of "Quest 64"-esque bargain-bin kind of game.

The Nintendo fanboyism continues to skyrocket in these parts. The Wii looks cool, but I seriously question just how well something like Red Steel is going to work. The controller looks awkward and stupid, and the sword fighting gimmick probably isn't real responsive.

The Nintendo fanboyism continues to skyrocket in these parts.

I'm far from a Nintendo fanboy, but most unbiased people will tell you that Nintendo gave us a ton of more interesting things to talk about than Sony or Microsoft at E3. Maybe that'll change by launch, but that's the way it is right now.

What's the biggest game that Sony showed so far? Ridge Racer? Pfft.

Well personally, what will inevitably bring me to buy a PS3 is completely independent of what kind of stupid crap they want to do with their hardware and marketing department. I have more than a passing interest in the more obscure, fun, unique and unexpected titles that come along from time to time, and ironically despite an emphesis on corporate rehashes, it's these features that make the PS3 so appealing based on their strong third party support.

Until there is some kind of massive shift in the market, I still expect to see the next generation of surprise innovative knockouts like Katamari Damacy, Shadow of the Colossus, Disgaea and more on the next generation of Playstation consoles. Also the prevalence of new sidescrollers and shmups on the PS2 from developers like reasure have me hoping to see how they will blend the new and old school in the next genertion.

Obviously Nintendo has its fair share of great new innovative titles as well, but unless you're just doing a first-party comparison, you can't generalized based solely on what's popular to say the Playstation has nothing but recycled material. As far as I'm concerned from what I've played on both the American and Japanese market, the Playstation's market for unique niche titles dominates Nintendo's. By a lot.

Keep in mind this isn't a "Sony > Nintendo" post, lord knows couldn't care either way, I just felt the need to point out that there are more things to considering here than just the mainstream "killer apps," and the potential of what's to come before making dismissing anything so readily.

Super Paper Mario looks amazing, actually. It's a platformer.

I didn't see what was so great about the Nintendo conference. They ignored everything important. I hear the Wii played mostly accurate, though, so that's cool. Mario Galaxy looked great! I'm mainly excited for the GC version of Zelda (Wii was mostly broken from what I heard) and the amazing DS games though.

I think the 360 had the best all-around show, although it pains me to admit it. Bioshock is just... wow. Chromehounds was AMAZING fun, like Twisted Metal Black for mechs. Halo 3 looked great, and Mass Effect is gonna be fantastic. Too Human, Prey and Haze all three looked fantabulous, too. PS3 was very mediocre. Warhawk was meh, Madden sucked, Resistance and Eye of Judgment were both pretty cool though.

Yeah, Wii looks amazing. Too bad they are forgetting that the games have to be revolutionary to have an innovative console. They are just making previous gen. games with their controller, that is all. Nothing new. Metroid Prime 3 ain't going to beat Halo 3 in the originality department because of new controls.

StYoung, Halo 3 ain't going to be original, but neither is Metroid Prime 3. Madden '07 on the Wii ain't going to be innovative, Red Steel wouldn't even be considered a mediocre game on another console but because of the Wii controls, everyone thinks it is going to rule, ...

I'd say changing the way you play a game is more original than playing the game the same way but seeing something different on the screen. You say controls as if that's a minor thing.

If you want to be really picky, you could say that no game in the last three or four years outside of Katamari Damacy is truly original.

I'm saying a standard game (like Red Steel, Metroid Prime) won't become innovative because of the new controls, they are still ordinary shooters.

I don't really think that's true.... at all. I'm not saying this is the case, but if the core of the game isn't anything special, we're talking about the difference between playing the same game with a controller and light gun or something.

As I see it, the Wii controller is going to make things fun that weren't fun before, things like playing Ping Pong on a console. I see the leap to Wii's controller as comparable from the switch between 2D and 3D.

Do I expect every game to be unique? Or innovative? Absolutely not. And the second time any game style is done on the Wii, it'll be difficult to argue that it's innovative. Just the same, I'm really looking forward to the Wii.

I'm looking forward to the Playstation 3, as well, and I'm happy to own an Xbox 360. One strange thing I've found after this E3 is that suddenly, people resent me saying that it's a good time to own all three consoles. I'm the new breed of fanboy: the "own 'em all fanboy." Fear me.

The difference being that Halo never said it was revolutionary. Nintendo did.

It's like a white guy 1 saying "I'll be black next week!" and then showing up the next week white. Then when the competition, white guy 2, states "Yeah, but he's not black like he said he'd be" then the guy's fans go "Yeah, but neither are you!!!!" when white guy 2 never promised he'd be black in the first place.

Nintendo has been consistently revolutionary for a very long time.
Indeed, the SNES, N64, GC were really revolutionary compared to the NES, and the Game Boy consoles, very revolutionary to have the weaker handhelds be victorious. The only really original thing Nintendo ever did was the Rumble. All the rest had been done before.

The thing that bothers me about the Wii is that they're making you buy a new system for games that can be played on the GameCube. Beyond that, you must buy attachments to play each game, as well, and re-buy your GameCube games for your Wii. Ridiculous.

Actually, they came out almost at the same time.

In any case, the Saturn's analog control was a dipped circular pad that was kinda like a normal Plus-sign style control, except it was analog.

The Nintendo made the Analog STICK, which is the design which prevailed and rightfully so.
