Well I had an interesting day

I've know for awhile that I probably need to have my wisdom teeth out
sometime. I had a consultation with the dentist this morning to take
some X-Rays and maybe schedule a date. As it turns out one of the ones
on the bottom is sort of growing in against another tooth, and there's
a decent chance it might have to come out. The problem is that it's
nested right in the middle of some nerve structure. Supposedly if it
starts causing problems and has to come out, I'm going to need require
special delicate surgery by some specialist because if they damage any
of those nerves in the area, there's a chance I could permanently lose
all sensation in my lower lip and gums for the rest of my life. Like
the feeling of having your mouth frozen until you die. It's a risk he
said I would need to agree to if surgery ever becomes necessary. Do you
have any idea how much that would suck? Not just the feeling, but half
the time after I get my mouth frozen I can't even talk without
slurring. I really hope it doesn't start causing problems.
So later this evening I was bored and decided to pass the time with everyone's favourite hobby, online gambling. Nothing really happened for about an hour or so, then I flopped this:

And immediately after some guy bet like $60 U.S. into me. Needless to say I that hand just bought me the new Super Mario Bros. game.
Sweet.

Online gambling with real money? Aye, I wouldn't do it >.>
But that is pretty sweet though.
Not the surgery part, the win money part :P

~Karpah~ What do girls do during sex, anyways. They just lay there and moan a lot!

Well, that's some fun food for thought.
I'm 22 and still haven't had my wisdom teeth taken out either, so maybe I have mouth paralysis to look forward to as well. That would really complete my year. Thanks for giving me something else to be paranoid about, Alex.

AIex and TIDQ, can your dentists recommend any oral specialists with good reputations?
I know what you mean about wisdom teeth causing problems. Many people end up needing their wisdom teeth extracted.

I've been making nearly as much money playing poker these past few days
as I have going to work. Call me naive, but I think it's a perfectly
valid way of making a decent profit as long as you know what you're
doing, and you're able to handle the swings.

Poker isn't like a lot of other forms of gambling, because it actually
involves skill. If you're significantly better at playing poker than
the other people you play with, you will probably win more money than
you lose over the course of many hands or many games.
In things like slots, roulette, and even blackjack to an extent, it's hard to beat the house on a consistent basis.

^^ In poker there usually isn't a "house" though in some of the weirder versions there are.

Yes, you're right. And that's part of it.
I'd like to think I'm pretty good at Hold'em, but my instincts aren't always that good. Let's just say I can beat my friends for play money sometimes, but I'm not confident enough in my ability to put my own wallet on the line.
I wish I were good enough that I could get money from playing poker regularly, so if Alex is good enough to do it, more power to him.

Slots and roulette I imagine have got to be IMPOSSIBLE to beat in the
"long run". You've got no control and they're specifically designed to
give you long run odds of like 40-49.9% win ratio. It's that tiny
little edge that leads to huge profits. Blackjack is a lot less subject
to random chance, but still... it's a lot more of a "gamble" than some
other games.
Poker is a gamble as well, without a doubt, but as was mentioned is a lot more controllable. There isn't a "house" like blackjack, places hosting the game simply rely on the rake for their profits. In casinos the rake in smaller stakes games really adds up, but online it's really not that devastating at any level. Personally I don't even notice the rake at all, unless there's a split pot (draw) or something where the money I get back doesn't quite match what I put in.
I won't go on endlessly about the strategy I use, which I still refine a little bit every day, but suffice to say that at low-level no-limit games there are more than a few players with heaps of money who just don't know what the hell they're doing. As long as your patient you can just rip them apart with little risk to yourself, especially if you control the amount you take in with your. The swings can still be pretty big, but I have yet to come across any tables that didn't have at least one guy that couldn't be picked clean.

There's the question I was waiting to see.
Big blind no raises. I wouldn't have paid two cents to go any further pre-flop with that hand :P

I started playing only a few months ago through a weekly tournament at school and on special nightswith people there. Now that school is over and I'm back home for four months, no one I know here plays, and it sucks. Even though you can't make nearly as much money, I'd rather play a good home game now more than anything just for the fun of it.

If you're ever in Kitchener Alex, I could hook you up with a game ;)
I play with my buddies usually every weekend. Usually 6-8 people per game and two games are usually played.

I often hit the Red Hot Poker Tour Saturday afternoons at Mollyblooms
in Waterloo. As far as I know Kitcherner and Waterloo are pretty much
the same city these days. It certainly wouldn't be out of the question

Starts at 2 every Saturday. Free to play, usually about 40-50 people tournament style. Everyone who makes the final table gets points toward the tournament of champions at the end of the season in Toronto (http://www.redhotpokertour.com/toc.html) depending on their position.

That's in Kitchener. Aside from the not playing for money, seems like a
neat little set up. I'll definately check it out in the coming weeks.

My wisdom teeth have need removed forever, and the top left one is
starting to do all sorts of weird stuff. It's getting painful to
swallow. I'll be looking into what can be done about it this week, but
it's not looking good. I feel your pain, Alex. I really do.
