And it all goes back to the same thing.
CJayC could have prevented it, but alas he did not.
If there is nothing we can do, then we should see CNeT.

I believe that Dogboy hit the nail on the head. It's not so much that
we're getting annoyed over something as trivial as a layout change, but
the fact that it is just another step toward the complete degenaration
of the site, and another indicator of how the admin keeps us
misinformed and in the dark.
Gamefaqs used to have a simplistic feel to it with easy load times, but that changed when the Gamespot merge occured. Ever since then the site has picked up a very Gamespot like appearance, a sheen if you will, and lost it's uniqueness by being stuffed full of ads. Whether or not this was anything to do with CJayC is regardless, but it was a stab in the back to those who believed his pervious words of the now infamous CJayC quote.
This new layout is eerily reminscient of all the other forums on the web, which leads to fears of avatars and other unecessary additions to further take away from the Gamefaqs feel.
Writer's block. Curse

And if he did that, people would be *****ing about not having social
boards. After all, people hate change, as witnessed by this new layout.
Except they'd have nowhere to whine, as even if he did keep the game boards, those topics would be deleted for Off-Topic.

Obviously many of you either a) Have no concept of the business world
or b) Understand the business world but don't pay attention to it.
It is quite simple, as has been stated multiple times, CNET owns GameFAQ's now. What they say goes and it isn't up to CJayC to tell the users every little old thing that is going on.
If you believe that the president/supervisor of a company/division (which CJayC is of GameFAQ's) has to answer to or tell those who are under them everything that is going on, you are living in a fantasy world.
Change happens and it will continue to happen. It has been explained in the Daily Grind what is going on and CJayC has been putting up a few topics here and there. If, by now, you all still don't get it, then there is no sense in continuing this thread because it all boils down to the same gripes and complaints without suggestions for improvement (either to CJayC or to CNET). It seems more people are doing the first thing and not the latter.

Like moths to a flame, here come all the people with no contributor pages flooding the topic to whine.
Heartily seconded. What business do you people even have here? In case you can't read - and I would take monetary wagers on this being the case - this is the FAQ Contributors board. M'kay?
Even if I weren't prolific and thus a beneficiary of the ad-free version of the new board design, I'd be behind this idea all the same. CJayC has decided to reward those who contribute of their own volition prolifically to the backbone of the site. What's not fair about that?
This whining from people who haven't even contributed anything to the site is idiotic. You're so concerned about the way this site looks? Pound for pound, it's still the best collection of FREE game help on the Internet. Get over yourselves.
And if you are one of those people who is pulling your content as a result of this change, good riddance. The site doesn't need contributions from wishy-washy tools like you.

Can you really say there is such a thing as someone who hasn't contributed anything to the site? A large percentage of the userbase hasn't made any direct contributions that you refer to, but they still contribute to the site with their presence. Don't play stupid, you know as well as I do that this site wouldn't be the same with a lot less people.

I know why they're here. Doesn't mean they belong, though.
Cjay posted here and not other places because he likes us best...
Actually, not really. He posted here because this information only matters to the contributors. Until you're a contributor, it doesn't concern you.

Meh, so you've written FAQs. In my years of being here I've helped tons
of people, and answered lots of questions game related and non-game
related. The fact that you write FAQs makes you no better than me. Is
it that hard making 20 save games or making some secret FAQ or
whatever? No, this isn't about the ads, it's about Gfaqs becoming GS2,
and eventualy megring with GS... There's a reason I'm in Gfaqs, and not
in other boards.
On another note:
Cjay remember that old FAQ thread in your board? Well...
While CNET owns the site, I still have editorial control which is what's really important. , "CNET" doesn't decide what gets posted on the site - That's all Sailor Bacon and myself. We decide which message board accounts get banned, which contributions get posted, and what yes, even how the pages look. While the GameSpot design team came up with the current site design, I approved it
Ironic isnt it? Less than a year ago...

Please. Don't act like every individual is indispensable to this
website, especially the ones who haven't contributed a lick of anything
to its livelihood. The fact is and always will be that the boards are
secondary to the content. The contributors are the ones breathing life
into this website with their FAQs, reviews, codes, images, saves, and
everything else. As for those who only visit this site to post on the
boards, the only contribution they are making is toward the increase of
the boards' total post count. This hardly possesses the same gravity,
in my opinion.
You have not contributed a FAQ to this website. This is the FAQ Contributors board.
Therefore, you, and all the people the above statement applies to, do not have a valid say in this topic. Period.

Because premium is going to cost extra and have extra benefits. Those guys contributed a lot to gfaqs and is probably one of those main reasons the site became what it is today. I think it's one of those peace offerings and acknowledging their hardwork throughout the years. Cjay is smart at not biting the hand that feeds him (i.e, the site growth not cj). If I were those guys writing so much faqs and not getting premium despite all the work, I would feel jipped somehow.
Oh yeah, no contributions = GTFO the board etc blah blah blah.
---
If practice makes perfect, and nobody's perfect. What's the point of practicing?

Call me a "holier than thou" elitist all you want. The fact remains
that a bunch of people that would never post on this board otherwise
are only here to whine and complain because CJayC made the topic. Had,
oh.... Devin Moragn made this topic as a second party, we wouldn't see
all of the petty immaturity.
Meh, so you've written FAQs. In my years of being here I've helped tons of people, and answered lots of questions game related and non-game related. The fact that you write FAQs makes you no better than me. Is it that hard making 20 save games or making some secret FAQ or whatever? No, this isn't about the ads, it's about Gfaqs becoming GS2, and eventualy megring with GS... There's a reason I'm in Gfaqs, and not in other boards.
Exceptions like you exist, naturally. I'm just lashing out at all of the little kiddies coming in here to whine about selling out without offering any constructive criticism.
If GameFAQs is just like any other site, then why are you people spending all of your free time here? Certainly you could go elsewhere to one of the hundreds of other sites that are LOL OMG EXACTLY THE SAME and have a much better experience, given that we're all the same now. In fact, I implore you to do so as you help to give all of us a bad reputation. Go help IGN become "the console fanboy site that does nothing but troll", please.
PS - Check GameFAQs' numbers on Alexa since 2003. The hits have gone up at a rapid rate since the purchase, so apparently they're doing something right.

I'm gonna sit back and grab some popcorn, followed by a drink, and
listen to this pointless argument. No need to act like children,
folks...

that's rather elitist - "if you haven't contributed a FAQ to the site, you're not worth a thing. get out, loser."
everyone has a right to be heard, whether or not they've contributed. contributing to this site doesn't put you, me or anyone on a pedestal.
If you had contributed FAQs, then you would know how we would be feeling. You do have a right to your own opinion, and can be heard if you want. But unless you have contributed, you'll never understand what position we are in. There is a chance you may understand exactly where we are coming from or how we are feeling, and that's fine and dandy. But unless you have done some work like we have, your opinions may not have as much weight as those who have contributed FAQs. If you do understand where we are coming from, no one else should give you any grief about it. Like I said though, if you contributed FAQs, then you would understand, no offense.

It's a really simple process to fix this problem.
1) Read the Daily Grind
2) Write your own board style in CSS (you can't? Oh, gee... guess you can't complain!)
3) Become an active member of what makes up our site and gives it the name GameFAQs.
4) Realize the fact: It's Cjay's site, not yours
5) Realize a bigger fact: If CNET says so, it stays
6) Upon realizing this, complain to CNET
There! problem solved.

Normally I'd agree with you, but read the board name.
That said, I'd suggest Ceej make a topic on SS or something if he wants user feedback.
I like this guy <3

God forbid someone post their opinions in a topic that CJayC might
actually read rather than in their own topic on some random social
board that will be buried under hundreds of other topics.
