I second StarFights76: even after it (may) turn to trash, GameFAQs is still very much one of the biggest FAQ compendiums on the site. Much of the gamer population looking for help will come here, and it is this site that gets the biggest number of page views. It is here that we can help the most. Just because the site might lessen in quality over time is not a good reason to pull work; only when it comes an inch away from selling the stuff we put sweat and toil in will I consider pulling something.

I am not leaving because of the ads. I am leaving because you, the site admin himself, lied to us.

In turn, the users turned more against you, your policy, and what you stood for for the users.

Even the mods have gotten stricter. For every "what a dumb GFAQs moderation I got" topic on another forum, there is a serious message, or something other more important going on somewhere else.

CJayC, please, listen to me.

Around a few years ago, when GameFAQs was using it's now-known "classic" design, alot of users came here to talk and discuss their games, life, and have a fun time. Now look at it. You see topics like "zomg sonik and taylz r in souper smas brosers melay". This is just a small part, but encouragement on the users helps too.

The new design? I hate it. But if you compare it to the others, why change it? The topics are to spread apart, and it even hurts my eyes.

Also, many users are proclaming that you are a sell-out. And I cannot blame them for that. You seem to be catering to CNeT's and Gamespot's will.

You're morphing this site CJayC. If you don't stop, this is just going to be like any other ezboard forum. Cheap, trolling, untelligent posts, and everything it wasn't ment to be.

I came here to AVOID, the gigantic images, smilies, avatars, and all those other forum gimicks.

Ask me something CJayC, what's more important to you? Business, or a catering fan base who will more be willing to help you if you listened to them. It would also help to ask us about changes before doing them.

And if this message gets modded, it only proves my point more.

Good day to you.

Okay, enough is enough people. If you want to act like whiny, immature kids, take it elsewhere.

The site is going to be this way, period, end of story. If you are so against it and can't stand it anymore, then please, by all means...leave.

I feel sorry for many of you who are whining because it isn't any different in the real world regarding change. If you were to act like this out there, your ass would be out in the streets in no time. You can't make everyone happy but guess what, that's the way it works.

I strongly suggest if you wish to pull contributions or close out your accounts, do so quietly instead of drawing unnecessary attention to yourselves.

Complaining about things is one thing but the constant whining about what's going on achieves nothing.

I love reading comments by people who are so opposed to even the slightest bit of change. Deal with it. I've been here since the beginning, probably spending thousands of hours either browsing the site, using the FAQs, writing FAQs for the site, finding codes to post on this site and posting on the messageboards. I guess you could say I've put in my time here. And you know what, I could care less if CJayC wants to change the site layout. I've contributed A LOT to this site and if CJayC wants to mess around a bit with HIS site, who am I to object?

And even if I didn't like it, what the hell good does it do to threaten not to come back to the site. Good riddance to you if you are going to be that critical. If you don't like how the site "looks", then the problem is yours. All the content is the same. All the messageboards are the same. DJ Tigresa is still banned. Everything you have come to love about gamefaqs is still present, except it got a facelift.

And what is the big deal about ads?? There aren't too many sites left out there that are ad-free. Does it really bother you THAT MUCH to have an ad take up 5-10% of the screen?? Scroll down past the damned thing. For those of you complaining about the ads, how many of you are sending $$$ to help pay for the site? Let's see some hands out there. That's what I thought.

Is the layout change really that much of an event in some of your lives to warrant such an uproar???

This certainly explains why my new design looks pretty awesome. It was a shock at first, but it looks very professional (especially the contributor pages.... holy hell). When mixed with GameFOX, it's downright awesome.

Though I actually liked the 2004 redesign in time, until it gave me migraines. I know you want us to be patient and all that, but you said back in 2004 that we'd see user-submitted css and such and to be patient. Here we are two years later, and we're all hearing the same thing again.

I'll believe it when I see it, and a css that does nothing more than change the white background to something darker is about all I ask. I wasn't kidding when I said that the previous layout gave me migraines.

The only complaint I've ever had is that Ceej is too busy. He'll promise to do something with every intention of acting on it, but his list of stuff is so damn long. We were told two years ago that we'd see user-submitted css and all that. The latest Daily Grind topic isn't exactly telling us users anything we haven't heard before, and I'm hoping it doesn't take long to get that ball rolling. I'd love for a badass little black/red redesign to v10.

this is contributor bribery! I'm sure my five or six or whatever FAQs aren't enough, and I'm not gonna write a ginormous 1 meg FAQ just to make up for it.

despite this fault though, it's a cool idea. I see no problem with premium service so long as access to FAQs isn't part of it, and I can't imagine that would ever happen.

So is every contributor getting to go ad-free? Because it would seem to me that if you're making money off of other people's work then they should at least be spared being asked to view ads.

Is there going to be some sort of system where people have contributed under a certain amount will see fewer ads than someone who has contributed a lot and won't see any ads?

I'm really happy I've never contributed.

That was really uncalled for. Sure you may be tired of the rants, that's fine. But people who actually do contribute has every right to have their say if they want, even if it may be complaints. Afterall it's been said, our FAQs are what help made this site what it is, and if some people don't like the direction things are heading, mostly if it involves the FAQs they worked on, then let them voice their opinions. Be glad it's only that and not "OMG ITS A CEEJ TOPIC, MUST POST IN LEGENDARY TOPIC!"

Complaining about ads is stupid, and that's all there is to it.

However, I will be supremely disappointed if we remove the ability for the gamers to use different looks, as was said.
The part that I loved about GameFAQs was that it looked nothing like any other gaming board. Hell, the forum we use was 100% different from anything else I'd ever used.

As we continue to conform, this site loses what makes it special. Why should anyone come here anymore if the FAQs are popping up elsewhere (and they certainly are)? This site becomes just another random gaming site.

I'm with Ultima on this one- Cjay had better make DAMN sure that he gives us user-designed CSS sheets. That way we can keep classic, or keep v.9, or create our own "STAR TREK!" version if we so choose.

It's the fact that we're turning into GameSpot that sickens me; before long we're not going to have anything that other sites couldn't have.

Well. You can all see what's happened.

I also agree that there need to be custom layouts. Now, I personally don't mind the new design. I don't mind the ads, either. I just know that the way I feel isn't the way others feel.

And it's probably not wise to tick off the people who come to this site... who are the people who MADE this site.

Guys, prolific contributors (20 completed FAQs+) gets the premium service.
Also, you guys keep thinking it's your own FAQs that supported the growth of gfaqs. It's not just that, I'm not sure if you guys know, your faqs are also "sold" to AOL access so your contributions also affect Cnet and AOL's business and so forth.

I'm just here to remind you guys that you guys are not just the vital sign for gfaqs, but gspot and AOL as well.

Adaml, people are voicing their concerns because gfaqs is built on the free faqs of others. For me, I kind of feel jipped for the other guys since Cnet is profiting because of the traffic created by their faqs.

I'm just bitter because Cjay said Gspot and gfaqs would remain seperate entities but it's getting closer and closer.

CJayC, this is a poor incentive for many reasons:

• I've had an ad-free GameFAQs for about two years thanks to a Firefox extension called Adblock. Anybody with Firefox doesn't need to contribute to GF to have it be ad-free.
• There really shouldn't be ads on this site in the first place. This is one of the fastest loading sites I visit, and its speed is one of the reasons I visit it rather than other gaming sites (though recently I've branched out, and most of my time is spent at LL). With my 56K modem, having ads would slow this site down considerably.
• Why should you have to give people incentive to stay after a redesign? Redesigns should be better and exciting. Do you think that you're giving us a design that would turn people away? If so, you might want to rethink it.

All that I ask is to not be modded for this post. I know that GameFAQs has strict rules, but telling the site's creator what I think shouldn't cause me to lose karma. This is the users' site as much is it is CJayC's, because without users GameFAQs would be nothing.

And may I ask something else without being modded?

What the hell is that giant Gamespot logo doing above the GameFAQs logo on the front page? I come here for the FAQs, not for Gamespot's take-an-hour-to-load-one-page bullcrap. I mentioned before that there were sites I chose not to visit in place of GameFAQs. Gamespot was one of them. I can guarantee you that if this site starts taking even 10% longer to load because of the redesign, I'm gone.

Anything else I didn't say was covered by dogboy's post (4/11/2006 4:05:19 PM).

It's not just a gaming website. It's a business. The people who work for the business are getting a little sick of being kicked around and being expected to PAY to use the business they contribute to.

(sidenote: what the hell are the premium features and why are people so wound up about them?)

Since I haven't written any FAQs, I can only empathise. Like I've said, I personally don't care. I stopped coming here on a regular basis the first time the site started going to hell.

But although I'm not pissed off myself, I can understand why other people are. They're not whiners.
