A traitor/plagiarizer in our midst
From: War Doc | Posted: 3/14/2006 1:35:59 AM | Message Detail
I refer folks to this topic:

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=5&topic=26877669

It seems that DJ Tigresa has been, errr, "borrowing" material created by other people (supposedly with their permission) in her quest to reach 10 MB.

Unfortunately, it seems that (so far) 2 MB of this material was plagiarized from hint books created during the early 90's. Specifically (so far) the Genesis and Jaguar FAQ's.

In addition to being non-remorseful for these acts, DJ has sought to make excuses as to why this event occurred.

The bottom line is that it is plagiarism regardless of whether you used someone else's material and claimed it as your own or whether you did the copying from the book to a FAQ yourself.

I believe that folks have the right to know and be aware that this kind of behavior not only makes the guilty party look bad, it makes us all look bad. Especially those of us who put a lot of work into our FAQ's and not having to resort to these kinds of cheap tricks.

I don't see why this topic is needed. I agree what she did was wrong but this topic can't help in anyway especially since she already made one that has been noticed.

Just my two cents.

^On a board that is not frequented by many, if any, FCBers. It'd be much more fitting on this board, where more people know of her and would be more fit to comment on the matter.

Yea, I guess. I don't know, I just feel bad for her and it seems like we should just let it go.

I feel no pity for people who willingly lie and/or steal to get ahead just for recognition.

Be judged based on your own accomplishments, not the accomplishments of others that you claim as your own.

Unless she's pulled down all of her work and apologized to every person she's stolen from, she deserves every piece of bad publicity that's given.

Until you properly fix the mistake, why should anyone treat you like you've done so? No pity.

But do you think this level of public humiliation is going to just make this any better?

If anything, it's going to drag on for awhile.

Good, because it is deserved. We didn't create this problem but as I said before, it makes us all look bad.

Hey guys, my post on CC said my piece, but one of the biggest problems nowadays in writing is this whole "Oh well, best forget about it" nonsense. You know Brakker-Z? That man has been a villian around here for years. Sure he might be an alright guy, but the fact that he stole in a hobby where intellectual property is so prized makes him scum for ever trying it. The fact you guys are so forgiving makes me wonder what happened to the writer breed... something in early 2004 onwards methinks... it seem anybody around longer than that typically helps get these thieves and bandits, giving them the treatment they deserve... no mercy.

Ah, plagiarizing... What's the point? It's like cheating in an online game.

Traitor? The same DJ Tigresa who plotted to surrender West Point to the hated British?
From: kirbix | Posted: 3/14/2006 5:11:10 AM | Message Detail
Well, the axe has been dropped: DJ Tigresa is no longer a member of GameFAQs.

Let that serve as a lesson to everyone- don't plageurize.

As far as I can recall, DJ Tigresa's guides were never all that good quality anyway. Good riddance for those who take the quick and easy way. Anyone who is prepared to go that far for FAQing prestige does not deserve to remain on this site.

So just because I don't want to jump on the bandwagon and call for head right away.... you know what? Forget it, that comment just proves you are worth ignoring.

Give me a ****ing break. What if it was your work she'd been plagiarizing for two years? Would you just want to "let it go"? Honestly. Grow a pair.

Calm the hell down. You are being needlessly hostile and rude.

It wasn't the work of anyone here. Calling this subject to everyones attention was the right thing to do after some thought but there is no sense in continuing to kick her while she was down. There are official channels for these things.

She did something wrong, got caught, lied and is now paying for it. Let that be the end of it.

I don't know, just assumed we were more mature then that. Most of us.

Considering plagiarism is the worst crime in FAQ writing, and on the scale she did it on, she deserves everything she gets.

She's been a ***** for many years. Somebody even linked me to a comment where she degraded Kao Megura. I might feel slightly bad if she were a good person, but she's not. She's spiteful, and considers the stupid **** we do to be bigger and better than (at least Kao's) life itself--atop that, she never even actually WROTE her guides! Jesus H. Christ!

Good riddance, I say.

Didn't know her before, don't know her now, don't care to, and would probably not make any personal statements even if I did.

But I'm as glad as anybody to see plagiarized work gone from the site and the offender removed along with it. Always good for the contributing community as a whole.
