>_> The proper course of action is to charge the writer with plageurism crimes.

That, or force written apologies to all parties who were stolen from and let THEM file suit.

Taking down all work unnecessarily? That's not justice- that's just stupid and vengeful. It's lashing out inappropriately.

We're "softened"? Doing what is right doesn't require you to give the death penalty to every felon, does it?

Q!

Plagiarism the way I understand it is a complex legal issue that not only has potential consequences for the plagiarist, but also any websites hosting that work. If that still includes GameFAQs, that's a very bad thing, which is why it was dealt with harshly before (as it should be). I think.

What's sad is the push to gain prestige from a free text game guide site. I mean, if you're gonna cheat, at least have a bigger goal...

kirbix: To me, if you have over 100 FAQ's (out of 300 something) that are plagiarized or credited as your work when they aren't, it makes me a little suspicious about the rest of the FAQ's.

If it were one or two, maybe I could see past that, but we are talking over 30% of those FAQ's aren't hers. That means, to me anyway, that the other 70% are very suspect.

Your analogy makes no sense as compared to this situation. To me, if you are willing to do this with 100 FAQ's, there's nothing that says your other 200+ aren't on that same footing.

If I'm talking out of my ass here I'd appreciate it if someone lets me know so I can shut up. It's past 3am here and I'm no longer capable of coherent thought.

lisanne: You bring up an excellent point and I believe you are correct on that also.

Plus, it makes the rest of us look bad and suspect even though we didn't do anything wrong.

Once again, I agree with War Doc.

Perhaps taking out everything she said plus whatever looked suspicious (this would take some work to do) until proven innocent would be the correct course of action.

Clearing everything would be the only way to make sure all the bad stuff is gone.

Then again maybe someone with her standing should be given the benefit of the doubt..

Thank God for that.

While there are experienced FAQ writers here, anyone who I can get hold of if there's a question about FAQs that I can't answer on here? I don't know much about it and Devin and Sash are only around on here every now and then (although I've noticed Devin here more recently)... I haven't been around like I used to be for a couple of weeks so I haven't really managed to keep up with things here.

I don't really know her, anyway.

I think her older work is perhaps the safest one to let go. I do not think this 10 Meg goal was pulled just as she started.

Then again, it's just an opinion.

Don't get me wrong- I say nail her to the wall for the things that've been done.

However, I would be less inclined to disagree with your rash opinions if you had some reason behind them- rather than saying "TAKE THEM DOWN! BURN IN HELL, VILE FIEND!", maybe you take them down pending investigation?

If you can find proof that so many were plageurized in a matter of days, War Doc, then you should certainly be able to investigate the rest successfully AND in minimal time.

The harshness of the sentencing is what kept people away from such cheats... but since things have softened up, even prolific authors have stepped into doing a practice that was something done by only the truly misguided. Without that huge threat up over the heads of authors, it has become acceptable to cheat (look at Baseball from the mid '90s to 2004... a ton of steroid use due to not enough vigiliance and enforcement, so now the penalties have been greatly increased to discourage that cheating from occurring anymore).

Indeed. The only thing I remember about her was that she submitted the exact same FAQ for Rainbow Islands on both NES and SMS, with nothing changed. I assumed it was to raise her KB count. Meh.

At least certain vet member(s) probably won't be making many seafood based plagiarism jokes about her.

Wow, every FAQ ripped down and a banned account to boot.

I'll say, I'm a little shocked at the actual punishment, but it is indeed deserved.

Just goes to show, folks, always double check your info and your sources.

*shakes head* Given her "attitude" with this topic, she did herself no favors.

Despite rarely posting, I'm in a constant state of lurkage. Hit me up sometime, I'll probably be able to help out (or find someone else who can >_>).

Well...I guess that's that. Saves me the trouble of having to form an opinion on a person I don't know and a subject that came rather sudden and with precious little background info for me. I really should visit FCB more often, but I don't take myself too seriously as a contributor just yet, being as unproductive as I am.

But every little kb on my page was my own work. A shame to see that that is not a universal approach just yet.

*reads up on FCB* Never mind. It was an open & shut case of mass plagiarism then - I think we all hold the same opinion on that.
