2005 FAQer Tournament: Nominations
From: CEarle
| Posted: 1/4/2006 2:52:15 AM | Message Detail
Last year, I remember we did something like this, and it turned out to
be a pretty fun event. What I'm looking to do this year is to set up
two divisions of Prolific, and Non-Prolific FAQers. This topic will set
up nominations. Once all nominations are in (Ending Friday, January 6th
at 5 o'clock PM Eastern Time. Once the nominations are all in, I will
make a bracket for each individual category, and then we shall have a
voting period. I suppose you could call this a tournament, but it won't
be anything big.
RULES:
You may only vote once in the nomination period.
All votes from alternate or other accounts will not be accepted.
You may only vote once in the time period. This is not a poll where you get to vote twice a day. You get one vote every different topic, or voting round.
Please note that help is needed for this tournament. As of right now, I am the only one running it, so if you have any help to offer, please tell me. I need someone to make a bracket once all the nominations are in, and I also need someone to keep this topic toward the top of the board at this point.
Also note that if you don't know anyone who meets the specific qualifications below, a vote for one individual category isn't needed.
Another note...Only writers who contributed a piece of work in 2005 are eligible. Even if you submitted the day after Christmas, and it wasn't posted in time, you are not eligible

Do you have to nominate both prolific and non-prolific?
To be honest, but I don't really look at too many prolific users' FAQs.

Images will be counted since they are helpful in the same manner as
FAQs by telling users where to go, and how to do it. If you don't have
a vote for a category, don't vote.

Can I have a definition of "Comeback"? I understand the term directly,
but how long does one exactly need to not be writing and whatnot

To Answer El's question...
A comeback as it's referred to pretty much just means that they had an off year in 2004. They didn't write to much, and when they did it was either very small, or it didn't mean much. In 2005 however, they picked up the slack and returned to their old form. They began writing more and more, and also increasing their overall quality.
Basically, it's just someone who wrote a lot more/better in 2005, than in 2004

It's not an authentic contest....it's just for fun. By prolific, it
would be by 2.5 megs. Still need help from anyone who can offer it.
I'll have all the matches matched up on a sheet of paper, and I could
get it on gamefaqs/phtobucket, but it would be better on a real bracket
making site.
Even if not a lot of people vote, it will still go on. If no one decides to vote, that's their problem. Even if we only have a couple of matches and such, at least it's still a tournament.
I wish Dark Vortex would get back from vacation. He's used to doing this sort of thing.

Best Format: Haven't noticed the format too much

Best Comeback: BostonFuse51 is a great comeback along with being an improvement
Best FAQ written by a non prolific author: mosquito breath's Wolfenstein3D guide. This is the only walkthrough up for that game and writing for that game takes a LOT of patience, effort, and motivation. It has helped me get through many of the levels I was stuck on.
Hardest Worker: Haven't noticed non-prolific authors too much

I don't think I'm experienced or knowledgeable enough to cast a vote in this topic.
I will say, however, it appears to me that the Prolific and Non-Prolific FAQ'ers' standards have risen over the past year.
