A previous issue was involved with some other guide, for which I've reasoned with him. Still, what he's doing with FFX-2 guide it outrageous. Yeah, the quote circles is said in the game, but Siniroth didn't even have the courtesy of writing it down for himself. Instead just took it from mine (as he did every other ones, but those don't involve misspelled words or something).
Here's just one more of parts he 'made':
If you look into my guide under Character's Status section, entry 'Auto-Life' you will see that I state that KO-ed girl recovers 25% MAX HP when she's reawakened. So what is wrong with this? It isn't *true* - Auto-Life actually recovers only 12,5% MAX HP when girl reawakens from KO (trap I have set up). To demonstrate SinirothX's entry, take a look at this excerpt:
Auto-Life | With this status on one character, if they go under | KO, they are revified with 25% maximum HP.
And I cannot be bothered e-mailing him - not yet. I'm pissed and if I where to make one, there'd do lot of expletives involved, so I'll refrain from it for now. |

By the way, totally off topic, but Split, your FFX-2 guide is REALLY damn good. I'm using it and with my own methods of play, I'm doing great. --- IGN Guides - http://guides.ign.com/ Project(s) - Sword of Mana |

Well, the spelling could be proof, and I have already emailed him myself, but just one question: Why would you purposely change different statuses in the game just to prove a point? Isn't that lying to the readers out there? Wouldn't it be better just to change the quotes a little, that way it dosen't provide false info? --- Thank you, St. Peter. That's quite a nasty system of traps you've set up, Split Infinity. He will most definitely have a difficult time explaining that... but I also think that it is kind of wrong to list incorrect information in an FAQ on purpose.

Jason: I think what traps he sets are for small things that won't really affect much. If someone sees the girls don't revive with 25%, they'll make a note of it. It's not something that'll totally prohibit them from winning the game. If infact he said to do something that was wrong, say, to go to some place and do something that's not possible, etc, then yes, call him on it.
I, too, have "traps" in my FAQs, but I'm not about to release them. But none of the traps are false info. --- IGN Guides - http://guides.ign.com/ Project(s) - Sword of Mana |
| From: Split Infinity | Posted: 1/3/2004 11:29:22 PM | Message Detail |
That's true. Everything I have 'set-up' doesn't prohibit a player in any way. False 25% MAX HP for revival instead of true 12,5%? Not a big whoop, wouldn't you say?=) Same is for Lag and System Shock stuff from first post. In fact, from the time guide went up, I haven't received single mail that would point out 'mistakes' I've made. |
| From: me frog | Posted: 1/3/2004 11:32:27 PM | Message Detail |
It looks like the only trap you've listed so far that "affects" players is the revival one. Everything else seems to be abbriviations/spelling mistakes so I don't see how those affect players. --- Homer Simpson:Hello? Operator? Give me the number for 911! shoecream: Isn't the quote you circled actually said in the game?
Damned if I know. I've never played the ****ing game and hope to never even see it. But what I was trying to point out is that they both spelled relieve wrong, because I didn't do any editing except a few line break changes.
I fixed the pic so EVERYONE CAN SEE THAT THE SAME SPELLING ERROR IS VISIBLE:

Nothing wrong with Split's "traps", IMO. I've heard that strat guide publishers do similar things. Even with the traps, his information accuracy percentage is way above most people's faqs/posts, methinks.
As for what happens to Sin's faqs, if CJayC determines that he did indeed plagiarize, I'd be satisfied with the offending faq being removed, and perhaps closer scrutiny of his future work. I'm inclined to forgive people if they make serious attempts to make amends for their mistakes, so I think his current and future work shouldn't be removed, as long as it's original.

We still have to consider that this could be a coincidence (the spelling error). It's easy to make a small typo and leave out the "i"
But then again, there's a very small chance that the other traps the Split Infinity laid weren't "coincidences" for SinirothX's guide. --- Homer Simpson:Hello? Operator? Give me the number for 911! If you can't impress people with your intelligence, confuse them with your stupidity |

I agree with JungleJim. It doesn't look like Sniroth is directly plagiarizing word for word, so it shouldn't be full punishment. Admittedly, I do this as well. I'll even go to the extent of putting a filler sentence in just to trap someone.
Say, if it's a hard part of a game, I'll make sure to put some stuff in that's hidden from the average reader. It's like watermarking images.

Here I come to think for you!
Obviously, SinirothX was feeling lazy when he was writing his guide, and since the information was everywhere, he felt that it would be safe to copy+paste the info from SI's guide, because there are so many FFX-2 script sites and whatnot that they couldn't be traced back to him. Would you commit a crime if you thought you could get away with it?
