We're looking at the quality of a writer, which is based, pure and
simple, on the amount of people they help and how well they help them
(at least in my opinion).
Let's say two people wrote two guides. They were equal in quality, but one was for Final Fantasy VII, while the other was for Atelier Iris (the top requested game), the better writer, in my opinion, would be the second writer.
However, if the AI one was of terrible quality, while the FF7 guide was supreme among FF guides, then the FF writer would get my vote.

I just don't understand why game selection is a key factor in
determining a vote. So what if people like newer overcovered games? How
does that change the quality of their guide? Are War Doc's Arcade
guides better than Kirby's Nintendo 64 guides? That's what this should
be about, quality, not what system the guides are for.

Ignoring my complete disagreement of this lunatic statement, since it'd cause another 20 post argument and this topic has enough of them, I'll just ask a question. So, you think War Doc's Arcade game FAQs help people more than Kirby's Zelda guides?

Steve, you're being ignorant now.
I said they are equal in quality.
Therefore, I had to resort to finding something that would give one the edge. You may not like it, but I found it.
How many FAQs are there for those arcade games?
How many are there for the Zelda games?
It seems to me that it's better to have an FAQ that no one reads but is there in case someone needs help than it is for a fiftieth FAQ for a game.

Devin, I am going to be honest. Maybe you should hand the TD to someone else in the future.
A respected, but disinterested person would suite best for this. This topic is absurd.

People, people, settle down. This topic was fine. Devin is a great

is the most posts a tourney topic has ever received. Could be wrong,
though).

nm14, I disagree. Devin's got the experience. I'm afraid, due to human bias, you can't really avoid this sort of thing.
And look, here's what really bugs me about all this. Ignoring absolutely everything else, Devin gave him a chance to make good and to have the nullification nullified. What does he do? He keeps running his mouth.
Hell, I thought that was too lenient myself. But Shark managed to screw it up. So he deserves it.
Steve, for the last time, table of contents had nothing to do with the vote. Kirb just asked for someone to give him constructive criticism, which I did.
And I use abstain when I can't find a single thing to give one writer an advantage. What's funny is that I've used the argument about the sheer amount of games covered, and you've never bothered starting **** about it.
But now, of course, it's huge.

Thing is, there's really not a lot of room for bias in a public voting thing.
I don't see how things would be too different.

I leave for a few hours and you guys destroy the topic.
Shark - Vote against Devin, but if you give a reason, follow the guidelines given in the tourney page. Your reason was a rather obvious slam with bias, so the voiding was warranted.
Devin - Since the tourney has always been yours, it is up to you to decide who to pass it to... whenever you are done around here/running the tourney.
Trace - Unfortunately human bias is to vote the writer you know, and you are far more visible than the occasionally present Dan or Tom. This is not to say you should not be happy to win those two matches, but arguing semantics with Steve for 100+ posts is not good for anything either. This is said as a friend, not someone looking to start a fight, so talk to me on AIM tomorrow night if you wish to talk.
Steve - You are equally guilty of prolonging a senseless fight. You beat Siniroth simply because your best stuff beats the living piss out of Sini's. If others included plagiarism by Sini in their voting, well then that bias is on their consience, not yours. As for an anceint accusation of plagiarism, if you were cleared, then simply state the facts about it and do not make it into a massive free-for-all... makes you look far less guilty (which I am told you are not) than "loud" postings about it otherwise.
Kirby - You and I may be the only sane ones around, posting things and making votes based on our judgment of writing skill, not who you know and what others will think of your choices.
Alex - Even though your comments are usually quite funny, you have only aided the fights, though I know it was not your intent. However, you have done no real wrongs, so keep that sense of humour flying elsewhere, as a good laugh is healthy... in most circumstances.
NM14 - You strike me as a smart guy overall, and it shows in about half of your posts. However, you have this ability to get in sly remarks that undercuts your statemanship, devaluing the point you are attempting to make. If you want to run a tourney or see another one start, then by all means see to it. However, just note you will face adversity due to your constant bridge burnings with a lot of the FCB (though that can be recovered through smart, constructive posting... just look at Gbness). Try to give a little respect instead of senseless fighting, ignore the baitings of others, and you will find that respect can only be earned, never given.
To everyone else not voting within the confines of the tournament set-up - How about the group of you start following the edict of this tournament and start voting by comparing work, figuring out who the better writer is, and not just voting for friends and familiar faces. No one is going to flip their lid over being voted against (hell, when Dallas shelled me 34-8, or when I was beat in a regional match two tournies ago, I applauded my opponent and wished them well as they were found superior by my peers), so how about we try to do it the right way for once.

Now for my votes:
30 - Dallas (I have to give Dallas the nod here, but in an incredibly close match. Both are quality writers who deserved their previous tourney victories).
14 - CyricZ (In less close match, Cyric smashes Gbness with his high class FAQs, including the godly OB64 FAQ offering that was the first thing I ever saw on this site via a Yahoo search).
27 - War Doc (This was a tougher choice here, but War Doc's ability to find every single shred of info within a game and then communicate in an easy to use manner makes him the choice).
22 - Wolf Feather (CVX does some nice stuff and Wolfie does have some incomplete stuff, but Wolfie takes it with some solid writing).

I use AIM once a year, just like how often I browse this section of the
gamefaqs boards. And all the cool people I had on my AIM list seem to
have removed me (brian, pp, meowth, btb).
Unfortunately, I peeked at this forum after the contest already started, before I could request not being involved with the ego-stroking at other's expense this tournament is.
