Not to feed the troll, but...

I beat a guy no one knows and a guy that plagarized, just give me the title. ;) lol

You say your reason for beating Culbert was because no one knew him, which hurt him. Then you say that you beat Sini because he plagiarized, which also hurt him (=detrimental).

And plagiarism is the uber detriment.

Shark: See the point later in this post. Also, just because you've never used someone's work -- and I find it hard to believe that you've never used Devin's, since he pretty much defines prolific (see the actual definition; not the GF use of the term) -- doesn't mean you shouldn't vote for them. That's why the CRPs are there.

Or maybe, according to a confidant on AIM, you know exactly what I'm implying, eh?

I take back what I said about plagiarism being the uber detriment. Or rather, rephrase it.

You won two rounds. That's a fact. No one can deny that.

You and Sini were both, at one point, in trouble for plagiarism. No one can deny that either (well, except you, but you could easily deny that Nixon was ever a president).

While plagiarism is definitely a moral evil, and proof of bad character, it does not detract from the quality of someone's work (under the condition, obviously, that the plargiarized work was removed). Because -- and here's where you tie in Shark boy -- we are not voting on character, popularity, or past malice (which is what the original tournaments were turning into), plagiarism should not be used as an argument against someone so far as the quality of their work is concerned (again, assuming it's all still their work).

Siniroth had to correct (or remove; I'm not quite sure) one guide. His others remain, which is why he's still prolific. As far as we know, everything up there is his work. Why, then, should we count the plagiarism offense against the quality of this remaining work?

Dingo also accused Devin and Nemesis of plagarism. You have to admit he wasn't the sanest of individuals.

And I'm relatively sure it proved to have enough merit to invoke Ceej to make you take it down. Not only that, but you picked the worst source to plagiarize, if I remember. That alone deserves death. I mean, you want at least semi-accurate information. =)

And Sini could be here now and fine if it weren't for...I think it's problems with life or something.

The point, however, stands. Plagiarism is a poor excuse to vote against someone, in my opinion, which I believe I backed up, unless you have another sho- I mean, another argument against it. =D

With that, in order to keep this topic on track and to finish Steve's fun for tonight, I go back to St. Benedict.

Um. You never mentioned skimming Devin's work.

I'm not even getting onto you for voting against Devin. I got onto you for the snippy comment you made before it (as I would have if it had been about anyone) and then the shoddy reason for it.

I mean, come on. It was totally unnecessary. Plus you can break the ToS when you're talking about him behind his back on AIM. :)

Haha, not necessarily. I'm not accusing you of doing this, but there are definitely some people who would just assume that they like x's work over y's because they think y's rocks (or because they think that x sucks).

I'm like that with food, actually. If it looks/smells weird, I assume it's bad.

I thought this tournament was going to be a tad dull with low turn outs. Boy I was wrong; there's an argument practically every round!

Plagiarism shouldn't matter because FAQs that are still up weren't the ones that were plagiarised. Other things like board personalities and whether you put your PayPal address in your FAQ shouldn't be negative voting reasons either; remember we should vote for the quality of people's work and not the people themselves.

I will vote, but first I should put my two cents in. After all, I'd never miss out on an opportunity to bore my fellow GameFaqs users with my long, winding ramblings, now would I?

The tournament will never have "pure" results because it is voted on by regulars of the board. For similar reasons, jury members are required not to know the person being tried. If this were voted on in a different board or on GameFaqs itself (it's possible, right?), I think that the results would be far different with a whole different set of reasons why the results weren't pure.

The fact of the matter is, whether consciously or not, we cannot vote with completely unbiased reasons, even if the bias is present to a very small degree. I remember back to an earlier round, when someone (I forget right now) decided not to vote on two unknown authors to them because one wrote for Pokemon games, and they knew that it would be unfair in advance, and thus decided not to vote. A very noble thing to do, in my opinion. But, it does illustrate very nicely my point.

No offense to him (I need an example), but if Shark were to become prolific within the top 64, was an FAQing god superior to Adrenaline or Devin or whoever, he still would not win the tournament (or so is my theory). Why? Because he has a history of dislike. Because you already have reasons not to like him and consequently his guides. Maybe the votes aren't THAT corrupted, but impressions and past actions sway the votes even in this tournament. In one tournament, users were required to give reasons for their votes. That doesn't make it entirely reliable, but it's better than giving none at all.

As for reasons, voters tend to come up with many stupid ones. I'm not just talking about plagiarism or not knowing someone, although that probably did influence votes to some extent in certain matches. What about reasons like superior formatting? It could be argued that this actually is important to the FAQ, but the formatting would have to be absolute **** to affect my vote. Or how about range of games? How does writing for a certain game affect the quality of the guide itself? Does writing for older games make the guide better? Does writing for Pokemon make it automatically bad? Is having many guides superior to having few? I do not think such reasons support healthy voting. This tournament is about the quality of the guides themselves.

So, my point is: why argue about the votes? Anyone can vote for anyone else in this tournament based on any reasons they'd like. It's what they say here that counts, but what they say here does not determine their vote, if you understand what I'm saying.

Just my two, three, maybe four cents. As for voting...
