For future reference, we're opening and closing rounds at 5pm Eastern
time. It still gives 24 hours to vote for each set, so keep the time
change in mind for future voting...

4 - Psycho Penguin
vs.
61 - JCulbert
One of the more active authors today... his newer RPG stuff is fantastic. Really the clear winner there.
29 - SinirothX
vs.
36 - Red Scarlet
You can tell from looking at his FF stuff that a lot of work went into that... plus his stuff is good overall, so he's the winner.
13 - Kao Megura
vs.
52 - MKim
\m/
20 - JChamberlin
vs.
45 - Aaron Baker
He's a good writer... hardly ever gets credit for it though.
5 - Split Infinity
vs.
60 - Minesweeper
Fantastic worker, and right to the point, good author.
28 - Stinger 3:16
vs.
37 - EOrizzonte
12 - kylohk
vs.
53 - Apathetic Aardvark
kylohk's a good writer although his ToS guide is completely filler-tastic.
21 - DJ Tigresa
vs.
44 - shoecream
Abstain.

28 - Stinger 3:16
53 - Apathetic Aardvark (kylohk's guide for Wind Waker is pretty lacking. A Zelda guide should definitely have a few sections listing Pieces of Heart locations, etc. instead of forcing readers to look through the entire guide for what they need.)
44 - DJ Tigresa (neither are very detailed, but shoecream didn't have a Table of Contents in the guide I looked at. A big mistake when FAQing, even if DJ does have rather sloppy SMB guides)
Not quite as exciting as the first matches, but I had to think/read about it for a few. I hope Crazyreyn records this on that FCB site of his.

I know reyn, but the problem is, I've never used either of their works.
And I'd just vote against the pokemon person for liking pokemon... so,
I feel in order to be fair, I should just abstain it!

I didn't really like either one of the writers here. Neither had a really appealing format, although the information was pretty decent.
53 - Apathetic Aardvark
44 - shoecream
DJ has really, really bad format. If you're reading this, please fix it up. Read some of the higher seeded FAQers in this tournament and see how they have the headers and etc.

4 - Psycho Penguin (through our thick and thin moments, Steve's ability
to write has never been in doubt, though some of his guides have
HORRIBLE format).
36 - Red Scarlet (Close, but I rather like how Red Scarlet approaches her self appointed duty as a translator of games for those seeking to play the Japanese versions. Also, she has a rather understated way of communicating information with a bit of a smirk in her words).
13 - Kao Megura (Sorry MKim, but you are not even on the same continent as this guy).
Neither (Both have ups and downs, but neither stands over the other in a clear victory).
60 - Minesweeper (much love for Split, as he has progressed along, but the now essentially retired Minesweeper still rules the roost here. Here's hoping Unnatural Selection is still a welcome haven for me after this vote!). ;)
37 - EOrizzonte (In ma match where neither stands out, the simplistic and clean format from Orizzonte wins over the more obscene offerings from Stinger).
53 - Apathetic Aardvark (more varied work combined with a much better layout for the FAQ beats out kylohk. The old school flavour did not hurt him/her either).
44 - shoecream (although I am not a huge fan of his work, shoecream gets the nod simply because DJ's work is sloppy, incredibly badly formatted, incomplete, and lacking in any real effort for a large part. That may sound harsh, as the work is older than most FAQing "careers", but the lack of effort mentioned includes not shining up old work with new knowledge or better wording, instead just shovelling out quantity that leaves a reader wanting better).

Sine - This isn't about picking people you "know" either. I've voted
down my friends and they've voted me down too - it's a matter of who's
done the better work, period. If you feel uncomfortable about a certain
matchup, feel free to abstain like you did, but to say you abstained
because you don't know who either of the authors were is sorta iffy.
Familiarize yourself with new work! :D

Sine - This isn't about picking people you "know" either. I've voted
down my friends and they've voted me down too - it's a matter of who's
done the better work, period.
I happen to know that a small number of the people who voted for me yesterday didn't even look at the other guy's work. I only mention this, which sounds like I'm putting myself down, to point out that in the end, it doesn't always work out that way. No matter how hard they try to avoid it, most people are still going to vote for their friends >_>
I know I sound like a pessimistic old fart, but I'm not complaining or anything, tournaments are badass. ;)
Go Split and EChang!

Devin - by "know" I simply mean familiarized with their work. Steve is
the only person in today's lineup, aside from myself of course, who I
could even make a claim to knowing well.
Alex - my memory could be wrong here, but I do recall adren having won either this tournament or the non-profo one at one point in time. It would be in the realm of possibility that adren has written many good guides. I also fail to understand how your telepathic powers informed you that people have never looked at adren's guides, but clearly mycorporeal mind can't process such universal knowledge.

Um, Adrenaline is one of the most known and respected people in the
tournament and she's won it at least once before, prolly twice.

I know, we're talking about some super veteran previous-tournament
champion, but there wee still people voting for me. It was pretty
obvious some of them would have voted for me no matter who I was
against, just because it seems like the obvious you-my-friend thing to
do. I'm not saying more people should have voted for me, I'm saying against me. o_O

Actually, she beat the tar out of you all things considered. I don't
think your match was the defining example of "popularity contest",
although I'm sure we'll find about 30 examples before the tourney is
over.

Well if I didn't use myself as an example, not that it isn't true, it
would just sound like pointless bitter complaining... which it probably
did anyway. Oh well, it wasn't my intention ;)

I'm not putting Adren down in any way. What I'm going to say applies to
everything in general. A #1 seed losing to a #64 seed is blasphemy.

true, DJ, but if that were the case, why bother having a tournament for anything in which the competitors are ranked coming in.

Remember, it's seeded in more quantity/less quantity. If it was seeded
in veteran/n00b I'd the the one at #64. If it was seeded my number of
bananas consumed / hour... who knows! It's a matter of perspective.

My mom packs my lunch for work on weekends when she's home. She always
puts a banana in there. I'd be seeded pretty high on the banana scale.

The quantity is used for seeding... the quality as seen by the voter
determines the outcome. You need to seed everyone for a single
elimination tournament, so quantity is easiest way of doing so.
As for #64 beating #1, I got a few from the sixth tournament that eclipse it in terms of sheer number seperating the two participants:
-#8 Joseph Christopher losing to #121 Ed Osciak III
-#5 Dingo Jellybean losing to #124 Coffee
-#6 Split Infinity losing to #70 Shdwrlm3
-#22 kayama losing to #107 hooi
All numbers are for is seeding... they do not determine strength of the FAQ writer. Hell, Adren is a two time champ, so losing to her for a first time entry and still refinin his art, Alex did damn well.

The number next to each person's name shouldn't be the basis of
anything though. The lower your number is, the more work you have
posted on the site to date, that's all it's about. So how exactly is it
a popularity contest or whatever because Adrenaline, who hasn't written
in years and has way less posted, than Alex, and yet she won? To me
that says a lot about Adrenaline that she can go inactive and people
still regard her work well. Putting aside the outcome of all the past
tourneys too, vote for who you feel is the best and move on.
I was sorta hoping it wouldn't turn into this sort of childish crap again, but if you have a problem with how this tournament is run or anything in regard to it, keep your thoughts to yourself (or at least outside of these topics). It's unnecessary.
