| Well, yesterday's matches were pretty slow-going, but then again there were a couple of people who surprisingly made it through (at least that's my thoughts on it). The winners were: 2 - Andrew Schultz 66 - Croco 34 - GheddonLN 31 - John Culbert 15 - Jim Chamberlin 50 - Snow Dragon 82 - Shirow 18 - Dallas Scott A quick note since we're still in Round 1 matchups here: it is still NOT required for reasons to be given. With that said, if you still wish to give reasons, you may do so, but understand they could be used against you if you're just being dopey about it. | I'll only offer my thoughts on a few matches, as I see fit. I know, I don't have to provide them for any...yet I don't feel like completely abandoning my thoughts this time, so I'll sometimes talk and sometimes just clam up. Starting....now! 7 - Kao Megura vs. 122 - Hafiz Rahman - Still one of my biggest influences as a guide-writer, I simply cannot vote against Kao in good conscience. However, this isn't about playing friends...so I have to vote for his overall quality of work. He has set what I believe to be a defining style of formatting, with little-to-no frills while spacing text and information so that it's almost listed like a chart. No bones about it, I love Mr. MacDonald's work, and it easily sweeps the competition in quality. 58 - Wilson Lau vs. 71 - Gbness 39 - ZoopSoul vs. 90 - Briareos Kerensky 26 - shoecream vs. 103 - Jdude84 - Tough matchup. 'nuff said. 10 - Scott Ong vs. 119 - Donald 42 - Matt Hulbert vs. 87 - Kailu Lantis - I like Kailu's expansive knowledge of the characters and stories from SNK fighters...but Matt simply covers so much more pertinent information. Plus, he does it in such a nicer, easier-to-read style. Level of depth may go to Kailu, but when you find yourself drowning in large passages of text...well, maybe it's time to spend a little more time on how to split up the sections, eh? 23 - Colin Moriarty vs. 106 - Sweetpimp324 - While I have to respect SP(324)'s ability to focus all of his efforts into a single project at a time - and, logically, that would lend itself to the concept that he would be able to more fully cover the games he chooses to work on - I also think that he gets himself too stuck into what he's doing, and ultimately does a lot of work for a minority of gamers. Colin's wide breadth of games covered easily give him an edge, not taking into account the fact that Swe' Pimp's guides also feel like they're longer than they actually are. Maybe it's the copious amounts of ascii artwork that he throws into the frey (most notable in his "Shut Your Mouth" character guides), maybe it's the large sections of white-space that leave the eye gasping for air (text)...whatever. Hey, what's the punishment for self-voting? I know we're not supposed to do it, so I'm assuming we'd get into trouble for doing it...is it banning from the tournament? Automatic disqualification? Can it be something that I know will get me entangled in another flame war with Devin? WOO!!!
