Hello all,
As some of you may have already heard, The 2004 Non-Prolific FAQ Writer's Tournament will be overseen by yours truly. I still have to make some final decisions over the format and operation of the competition, and I am in the process of constructing the accompanying web site, but everything looks prime for a March 01 start date.
This is where you guys become important. I am going to need the help of a few people when it comes to the logistics of the tourney. If you are interested in being involved in the running of possibly the most eagerly anticipated competition on the FCB, then declare your interest in the form of a post in this topic, accompanied by your AIM Screen Name (compulsory for all candidates) and should you be the sort of person I'm looking for, I'll get in touch with you within the next 24 hours.
Thanks for your time; I'll make further announcements after a little discussion with my "helpers" ;)
-Rich

I'd just like to point out that the "compulsory" AIM ownership does not apply to potential tournament entrants, rather I need a medium to communicate with people involved in running the tourney with me.
Thanks again,

My only question is how will this tourney be handled? Will it be like Devin's tourney only with non-prolific (and by that I mean based off of the CRP and not a single FAQ)? --- Just say I'm right or prove me wrong which is it? If you're gonna make a joke topic, atleast make it a funny one. |

Since I wasn't around during the Third, and never read into any of the prolifics tourneys, I'd be interested in acquiring a rulebook of some sort as I have no idea how this'll be run.

Rules will be officially posted on the date of the draft. Part of the grand plan is that people who I select to help me will have a part in finalising the intricacies of the rules of the tournament.
However, Mike, it is safe to say that I will not be attempting to emulate Devin's tournament style, as I do not consider it appropriate for the sort of author's I am expecting to enter. Plus, Devin's tourney creates very little interest among board members, it seems. I want to rock the boat a little here on the FCB and use this tournament as a showcase for each NP writer's best work.
Can I assume that all who have posted here are interested in assisting at some level?

I have a MAJOR SUGGESTION!
Last tourney needs to be changed by comparing writers, and not the a writer's specific FAQ. I think we should take Devin's approach by giving reasons and such. Just thought you could thing about this Rich, as if you dont have enough to think about.
Tank ya.

^ I disagree wholeheartedly. The NPFWT has always been about showcasing an author's best work. It has always involved submitting a single guide and evaluating that one alone. If you base the contest on a users entire profile, it is tremendously unfair to writers with one guide and favorable to writers with many. You might say "so what," but this is a non-prolific tournament, meaning the name itself implies it should not take quantity into account. --- How does an Advanced Meta-Mod feature sound? Not to disagree with your statement, but the same could of been said about the prolific tourney, example being Chad's CRP. He's only got a couple FAQs, even though he's prolific, and he was voted on based off the two FAQs he has up (if he has more I don't know). Not saying that you should disregard him because of it, but just pointing out that notion ^_^ --- Just say I'm right or prove me wrong which is it? Chad gets most of his votes because people here know him, not because his guides are that much better than his opponents. But that's besides the point.
The prolific tournament makes sense to include a user's entire profile. That's partly what prolific means. Non-prolifics have, by definition, not written as much. It doesn't make sense to then factor total contributions into the mix. If a non-prolific is a good writer AND has written multiple guides, surely his or her best work should be better than the best work of a new author with one guide. --- How does an Advanced Meta-Mod feature sound? Can we save this sort of discussion for when I see fit, gentlemen? ;) What I can say for definite is that it will be a show-case for the best work from Non-Prolific FAQ authors, not an overall impression of the person's CRP. For one, I doubt that many voters will bother to read an entire CRP, and therefore it becomes the popularity contest that is the Prolific's Tourney.
As for the "justification" argument, I am thinking of a slightly more clear-cut method of discriminating the better author's work. Stay tuned, folks.
