Let me rephrase my moderated post. I think, while it would bring sadness to the life of many people, the death of the current pope would be a good thing, since what Christianity needs right now, is a leader, not some ancient corpse who can't even remember his own name. Even though I don't really like Christianity, I pity them, because they have to follow a senile old man.

BTW, thanks for marking me Myke.

They said that the pope DID die, so I'm backing up BTB here, but somehow his heart started beating again, but now he's officialy dead.

I don't follow a senile old man. Catholic-Christians follow a senile old man. Born-again Christians follow Jesus, the REAL head of the church. I follow Jesus, not the pope. Most people confuse Christians with that religion since they're pretty much both the same, yet at the same time so far apart.

While I am a heretic Lutheran and those Catholics will hunt down witches like me at all cost, I do honor Pope for being probably the most knowledgeable person in the field of theology. He also believes in evolution and the age of earth being 4.6 billion years old, which makes him better than some of idiotic Christians in this country.

Almost everyone here, myself included, is too young to remember the pope before he became senile. At his appointment, he was an incredibly vibrant, charismatic, and warm person. He would come to the US to speak and sell out every venue in minutes. He was a tremendous influence in ending communism in the Soviet Union. In his heyday, he traveled the world and was considered, by Christians and non-Christians, to be one of the greatest benefactors of our time. He did not discriminate by religion when it came to helping people, and he even went as far as to forgive the Turkish man who attempted to assassinate him in the 80s. I think there is a very good chance he will eventually be declared a Saint.

It's easy to mock him now when all most people ever saw was the Parkison's-ridden old man who could barely speak. However, regardless of your religious beliefs, you should be respectful enough of his accomplishments to avoid turning this thread into a flame war or a forum to air your teen-know-it-all theological views.

I have nothing against him, it just annoys me how much people practically worship him and label him as a most holy man. If not for God he wouldn't have done those good deeds, so stop worshipping the pope already.

I would make one important distinction (as a former Catholic, I feel I am in a position to do so):

Catholics follow the teachings of God, and by extension, the Holy Trinity. The Pope is the physical representative of God on earth, so he is an important man, but they do not follow him. They heed his words, but he can not go changing significant things or anything like that. He too is bound by God's laws.

Now, as for why I am not Catholic anymore, that is something else entirely.

The former salutation of Pope is "Your Holiness" or "Most Holy Father" whether you are a Catholic or not. It is just a tradition.

I watched FOX News and Bill O'reilly said that the death of Terry Shaivo and Pope are related. Seriously FOX needs to find a way to raise its intelligent level by banning Ann Coulter and O'reilly.

People don't watch FOX News for intelligent discussion, they watch it for reaffirmation of their right-wing (religious) beliefs. That won't change anytime soon. Air America is just as bad on the other side.

When this topic was made, the Pope was still alive. Not now, though. Not that it really bothers me, because I'm atheist anyway.

For the record, Admiral, John Paul II won't ever become a saint. You need two scientifically proven miracles, amongst other things.

Yes because you live in Malaysia and your TV is pwned by the corrupted Malaysian Royal family and far-right Muslims.

Roffle Hypro. That's got to be the funniest thing I ever heard you say.

--Being the only Catholic in the world that Hypro likes.

scientifically proven miracles

That's an oxymoron. But more to the point, that's not really a requirement anymore. John Paul II himself changed the "requirements" and canonized over 400 saints during his tenure.

I had a feeling someone would pull me up for the wording - it was the best short version I could come up with at the time. What I mean is that each "event" has to be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is a miracle, and not the workings of science or anything else. If things have changed since I learned about it in high school (I loathed religion), then fair enough.

Yes because you live in Malaysia and your TV is pwned by the corrupted Malaysian Royal family and far-right Muslims.

1) It was BBC.
2) I am a member of one of the royal families. And you're also wrong on that count; there are many royal FAMILIES, hence there's also no such thing as a "Malaysian Royal Family".
3) I'm also a far-right Muslim too.

Conclusion: Hypro for Pope. You deserve to be senile anyway.

To those who use atheism as an excuse not to respect der Pope: I am agonstic myself, but regardless of religion, you have to respect the man. I read somewhere that, if not for him, Communism would have fallen, but it would have fallen later and more bloodily (if that's a word). He also helped to bridge the gap between science and religion among other things. So my point is that, even if you're not Catholic, or even Christian, you've still gotta respect the man.

Unless you're Hypro, you crazy rebel, you.
