PS3 looks to be another contender.

Big wow there.

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/article/614/614619/e3-2005-ps3-official-20050516053247390.jpg

Weird controller. Looks comfy, at least. System will be backwards compatible with PS2 and PS1 games (which is very surprising, as they were talking about PS1 games being tough to convert). Games include GTA at launch, MGS4 and DMC4, which is a lot better than what Xbox has announced thus far imo (PD0 is a ****ing joke, btw. it's the same goddamn game on a new system. quite a few people bought an Xbox for PD0 and MS pulled a Nintendo by forgetting to release it. 1/10).

Can't wait to see what Nintendo has planned.

PS3 will be faster than the XBOX, even though it has half the RAM (XBOX's RAM is shared throughout the system, PS3 has dedicated). On a side note, a 3.2 Gig, but it's more powerful than the XBOX's 3 grouped 3.2's. Something with the output being more powerful. At a first glance, you'd think the 360 has the edge, but the PS3 will be faster, at least twice as fast according to Sony officials.

Most games probably won't take advantage of this right near the launch, but we know that the PS3 will be faster, and probably what I'm getting. Third party support is still there.

Yeah, it'll likely be easy to develop for. Developers have gotten used to Sony's plan.

I'm getting one at launch... It'll be the only one that I get at launch this gen, though. I gave Nintendo my money last time, and I won't do that again. ;) Kidding.

LOL, nice pic. I'm not crazy over the design, but sadly it will take the cake this gen... The 360 looks like a $20 DVD player for Sasquachi or some lame cheapo Japanese electronic producer and the N5 will be like a Bjork album in a box (supposedly it's smaller than a GBA SP, in which I'll lose it. Or the dust that it collects will stack higher than the system itself. There's the zinger!)

Boo for substandard console design. But the games look schweet.

XD @ Cold NRG!

I think it looks kinda cool, but certainly not as nice as the PS2. The controller looks awful, though. They had a perfect design before, so I don't know why they messed with it. I'll definitely be buying one that mimics the old design, if they are released.

Other than that, I'm just waiting for more news on my beloved MGS series. So far this E3 hasn't lived up to my expectations.

Launch day doesn't even look that good to me...

# Tekken -- Namco another washed-up tekken game. whee

# Killzone -- Guerilla <3 the trailer

# Vision Gran Turismo -- Polyphony Digital eh, ok

# Formula One -- Sony Liverpool no. just no. With GT also coming out... we don't need this

# Untitled Old West Game -- Rockstar Looked like Red Dead Revolver to me. dunno

# Oh-Ni -- Koei meh

# Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam World -- Bandai scoff

# Devil May Cry 4 -- Capcom could be a huge hit or miss

# Super Gory Wolfenstein Style FPS -- Insomniac Super gory? hmph. we'll see

# Metal Gear Solid 4 -- Konami easily the most attractive launch title here

# EYEdentify Voice Recognition Game -- SCEA uh... ok

# Fifth Phantom Saga -- Sega cough

# Heavenly Sword -- Sony hack

# Warhawk -- Incognito your mom!

# Killing Day -- Ubisoft dont know much about it

# Motor Storm -- Evolution pffft

Looks like an average launch day to me. Some random games trying to hype itself up with sweet but irrelevant screenshots (they are never actual, gameplay screens, pisses me off), with some sequels of promised games that always manages to excite everybody. MGS4 and GT will prolly be the only ones that will live throughout the console's life. Others will burn out in a year or two. Not that impressive to me.

Dreamcast's launch > all

1. Can we ever talk about things that are actually out? What happened to all the thrilling PSP vs DS nonsense topics? The things are out now and then suddenly the controversy ends? Heaven forbid we worry about the 5 billion games out now instead of focusing on a few that may or may not come out in a year or two.

2. MGS4 will not be a launch title. Thinking it will be will only make you waste money on a preorder. It's like ToE being a PSP launch title. :'(

3. It's pretty stupid to judge consoles ON THEIR FIRST DAY OF SCREENSHOTS, but oh well.

And now what you've all been waiting for, here's what I think! (or not...)

The controller is a boomerang with buttons. In new generation games rather than say "rotate the control stick" it will say "throw the controller like a boomerang." If the controller returns to you, you gain extra points in the game. This is not some Boomerang game I'm talking about specifically, you can do this in every game.

I'm inclined to agree with IGN, Killzone looks far too good to be real, I don't think it's humanly possible to design a game that good, somehow they're lying to us because, honesty, what the hell, how can something be that good.

The only games I'm actually interested on any next gen console so far are Metal Gear 4 and Devil May Cry 4. Obviously I'll be somewhat biased against new non-sequel games since short videos and screenshots are hardly enough to give me a decent impression.

I am quite sure the PS3 case came from outer space and they said "let's duplicate this and make it into the PS3 with our technology in it." I also have another theory that the entire unit itself came from outer space and when they say "cell technology" what they really mean is "The PS3 case was an alien space ship, we extracted the pilot and looked at his cell tissue at a microscopic level thinking "we could totally use these to play video games."" I imagine that the data moving from the disc to the hardware for processing should move at a very fast rate since it travels through living tissue, however it would still be prone to disc read errors if the alien had a high cholesterol level.

If the 2D generation survives on the PS3 (we got Contra, Gradius V, Alien Hominid and more on PS2) then I will forever bow to the gaming god who continues to satisfy my need for old school action.

I'll buy a PS3 on launch date, since despite my disinterest in newfangled hardware specs, data processing algorithms, and DVD burners in my GAME consoles (I think Xbox360 has one.) It just so happens that despite these facts, I still really like things that are cool.

PS3 looks a bit crap so far. For a start it's ****ing ugly, I mean at first I thought it was an actual joke IGN was playing on me. It's the PS2 but with a rounded top and a slab underneath with USB ports. And don't even get me started on the controller... I mean the Dual Shock 2 was the best controller for general use out there. Sony should sort these hardware features ASAP. And can you imagine the cost!? Graphics wise, very impressive. I haven't seen any videos (trying to get the conference vid now) and the games look OK, just more of the same. MGS4 is a good start; remember the difference between MGS and MGS2? Imagine what it'll be like now. >_<

The Xbox 360 looks better in terms of hardware and features (<3 it's controller). I just seen the Revolution and it doesn't look too bad, a little bland. Glad they are taking the DVD format, although DVD playback is too little too late at this point in time. Although it's bound not to have the same graphics pushing powers, the first party titles and revolutionary aspects (well, I hope they will be) will be reason enough to buy it. If it's not that revolutionary, then Nintendo are just going to go down.

To conclude: Xbox 360 looking better than the PS3 as yet, the Rev *should* be mint regardless.

So far this E3 hasn't lived up to my expectations.

It hasn't started yet, fruitcake. XD It starts on Friday for the beefy stuff.

DMC4 will be a hit. Same team as DMC/DMC3. No doubt about that, and Warhawk was one of the biggest cult hits of last generation. The demand for a sequel has been outrageous. The lineup doesn't seem to hip to me, either (I only want Warhawk, Insomniac's FPS and the next GTA at launch), but that's three more games than I want on the 360, and that's what's important.

Sorry Steve, I'm not into the NBA playoffs. I had to sit through enough of that **** at Val's parents house, and it put me to sleep every night but only after I had to sit through 240 shots in the second game, so it was endless torture. I come here because this is a gaming website (as far as I know, anyway. looks the opposite). ;D

I'm inclined to agree with IGN, Killzone looks far too good to be real, I don't think it's humanly possible to design a game that good, somehow they're lying to us because, honesty, what the hell, how can something be that good.

I want to agree but c'mon. It's not THAT far off. By the start of the next gen, everything WILL look too realistic. It can't be that far off, yanno?

Reyn, I love you but you're a bigger fanboy than me at this point. ;D Every website is saying that the PS3 specs trounce the 360's. Hell, the 360's BEST LOOKING GAME runs PERFECTLY on the PS3, as demonstrated to the awe of everyone at the conference. That's the problem with launching early: you've got the sales advantage, but you're a step behind on technology. Case in point: PS2. As for Nintendo, I'm not even gonna watch. As far as I'm concerned (and a huge chunk of the gaming population), they aren't contending this gen. If I hear that they've got a gigantic huge megaultrakillerapp showing, I'll look at it. But if it's gonna be another Mario Party game on their projector, no thanks. I don't have enough white wall space to use it.

I think it's because I like discussing the future of the industry. Plus I'm busy playing my PSP. It's easier to talk about something if you want it. Hence all of the losers that talk about getting laid 24/7 never actually getting laid and such.

But yeah, NBA playoffs are so boring and dumb. They should make it a big brawl like with Ron Artest. That'd be fun to watch.

Added ya, Astro.

The downloadable games on the NR sounds awesome until you realize you can do that for free on your comp. Where's all the revolution in the Revolution, though? Reggie said that they'd have cool features that no one ever thought of before... I hate to tell him but ROMs are pretty old news. I'm still being hopeful, but the fact that Nintendo won't even release their controller concept at E3, of all things, has given me the feeling that they're a bit scared or they've panicked. MS and Sony put their balls to the wall despite fugly controller designs for Sony and cheap console designs for MS, so why won't Nintendo dive into the foray? Alas, this can all be transferred over to my Nintendo topic for future discussion.

Sorry, when I was refering to the 360 hardware I meant how it looks (the actual console). It's a complete given that the PS3 specs crush the 360.

Ohhhh. Well I disagree anyway. 360 = $20 DVD player you get for Christmas-look. Revolution >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PS3 >>> 360.

Yeah, total boomerangage. Ship it to Bec! G'day, mate! Shrimp on the barbie! :D

How you can honestly diss the X360's look and praise the PS3 I'll never know. I guess that just shows your levelheadedness. The PS3 looks horrible and speaking of $20 DVD players... The new Revolution renders/pics look identical to a circa 1993 CD player that I have. In terms of looks, with all bias aside, the X360 definitely looks the best IMO. And the controller is a dream to boot.
