I am hering mixed feelings that it dealt with the Olympics...anyone have any theories worth mentioning?

The cause can't be the Olympics, this has to be planned out at least months in advance and Paris was the most prominent candidate. Two possibilities remain, the G8 in Scotland or Britain's occupation of Iraq. The people who claimed the attacks, a European division of Al Qaeda claim they did it because of Britain's troop in Iraq.

The news here is saying that it could be by a "European Jihad" group, and that its to coincide with the G8 conference. Many other places in the UK have been put on high alert too; I know that Birmingham and other cities have had some roads closed and train stations evacuated earlier, as well as extra police even in small towns.

I heard about the Londom Bombings when I woke up around noon and couldn't believe it. Now there is a Orange Level alert mostly for all public transit systems. Gonna be a bit more cautious when I take the Metro Bus down in KC from now on.

You know what? It might not be al-Qaeda, and if it is, I doubt it's for the justification offered. Why? Think about it.

If it was al-Qaeda, the people responsible for 7/7 would also be those responsible for 9/11, right? 9/11 led to increased patriotism and, consequently, support in the president's war.

Now, if a terrorist group attacks as a protest to the war, and since this has been likened to Britain's 9/11, then technically speaking, this should actually raise patriotism, and thus, support for Tony Blair, and thus, support for the war.

If a group of people are smart enough to have engineered this sort of thing, then they're definitely not so stupid as not to have considered that little bit.

While it is likely that it's al-Qaeda...that's just something to think about.

Another thought I had in the shower is this:

When we found out who attacked the US, it wasn't the "American branch" of aQ. Maybe, then, this is an attempt to give the British government a dilemma. If they defeat the Asian aQ branch, there's still the European one to deal with, which is a closer threat.

I turned on the TV at 10pm last night and went O.O at all the bombings. They even took off the cricket to show the news! It must've been serious!

My grandparents live in Kensington, but they stay at home all day, so they were nowhere near the attack sites. My Dad was at a conference in London and took the train but, fortunately, it was not one of the affected lines.

A great tragedy that serves only to further undermine the claims of Al-Qaeda that they are doing "God's work".

Loads of extra security was placed in Gleneagles in Scotland for the G8 meeting from around the country. This would for starters leave London more open to attack.

All the bombs went off within 50 seconds of each other on the Underground, so I highly doubt suicide Bombers could be that accurate within one another. The one on the bus is strange - I think it wasn't supposed to go off on the bus and was an accident (maybe he was heading for the underground - he wasn't to far away from a station), people did see the man going through his bag just before it went off looking nervous.

There's two groups who claimed it and both are linked to al-queida, but no one knows if either are authentic. 49 are dead at the moment, and that's going to rise due to the police cant go into one of the tunnels at the moment - it's too far down and in danger of collapse, as well as asbestos and vermin down there and high temperatures. Also about 20 - 30 are critical in Hospital.

It could of been for many reasons but no warning was even given before the attack, so it's hard to get any evidence on the attacks or motives.

It could be because of the Iraq war, or just using advantage of reduced Police force, I don't know. Thats as much info as I know. Oh, and the driver of the bus that was attacked is fine and he will return to his job soon.

I live in Birmingham anyway, not that far from London.

You guys are talking about this from the wrong perspective. Terrorism has one and only one goal: to terrorize people. I have no doubts that Osama Bin Laden knew the US would be bombing Afghanistan a week after 9/11. I'm sure he knew Americans would rally and their patriotism would increase. Those things don't matter. The point is that he sent a message to the world and terrorized everyone in the process. His acts will now be in the history books forever, and Al Qaeda's name will be mentioned along with him. That's about as lofty a goal as any terrorist, especially a Muslim terrorist, can aspire to.

In that regard, it makes perfect sense that Al Qaeda would do this. Britain may go after them now (although really, what else can they do), but that's not important. People are now forced to discuss them and acknowledge that this group exists and react to the them in some way. And, in the process, many people are terrorized.

The whole thing makes perfect sense to me.

Birmingham city centre got evacuated last night. My sister is ****ing it, she goes into New Street Station each morning. I'm going to university there September too (although I'm not going to be too bothered, bombs going off is practically uncontrollable and if they go off, they go off).

It was a false alert. I'm glad the emergency services don't take any chances though; I'd rather be inconvenienced for half an hour than be blown up.
