If they have not done any change in past two decades there is no reason to believe they will change anything in next 7 years.

That's where you're wrong. London has a great plan (IMO) that will use new technology to make the games more "green friendly". Almost no dispersed energy will go to waste.

Besides a titantron and a shiny stadium, how technological can the Olympics get? In the end it's all about the sporting events anyway.

Face it: London put up a great plan and won the bid.

Make subway brighter and less stinky (NY should do that as well), raze down some dirty old buildings and put some skyscrapers instead, make the city looks more advanced instead of an old castle town in 11th century, etc etc etc.

Paris would have been a better city than London, IMO, simply because it's laid out better for a mass event like the Olympics. Both are far superior choices to NYC, however.

Am I the only one who isn't happy about this? Several of my family members live or work in/near London and have to pay additional taxes for the pleasure of having their city host the Olympics in 7 years' time. Not to mention that London will invite all the terrorists in the world in 2012 - a golden opportunity for them, since the city will never have been so crowded.

All in all, a bad idea. Paris can keep it.

The last time you started speaking French, it made me start in Spanish. Then someone in German. Until the whole topic just totally deteriorated into non-English languages.

Anyway, there are some implications of this that, while definitely not in the original plan, work to the terrorists' advantage. They now know that London is a pretty easy target (or was), and so for the Olympics...

Bah, I'm sure they'll get taken care of before 2012.

Really? I had heard that they arrested three people under the anti-terrorism laws, but the guy that CNN interviewed said that they refused to connect them to the 7/7 attacks.

Unless these are different people/more evidence has turned up.

These are different people. They haven't arrested them, since they're presumed dead in the blasts (i.e. they were suicide bombers). It's pretty hard to arrest a dismembered corpse.
