FAQ Sites. Good Or Bad? By Michael Sarich

OK. Now hopefully this topic will be stickied. I have googled for FAQ Theft and other related topics for just under an hour. I have compiled a list of sites which are recognized as FAQ theives, as well as a list of good sites which will give your guide more coverage. One resource I found mentioned a page by Red Phoenix, but I could not locate this file.

I Have An E-Mail. What Should I Do?

When I wrote my first guide, I got E-Mails from IGN, DLH and Neoseeker. I let them all publish my works as they are good sites.

When you get an email, you should check out the site. If the site looks good, check out one of the guides. I generally do not like ads on the page with my guide, so if a site has ads, I say no. Next, look at the sites credibility. If it is a site that looks like a thief, ask at GameFAQs or in this thread for some help.

In the end, where you want your guides is up to you. For instance I have had 4 or 5 small sites ask for my San Andreas guide, but only granted permission to one.

I Think .... Has Stolen My Guide!

First, get the URL of your guide. Write a message to the sites admin stating that your guide was posted at www....... without permission. Please remove, or face legal action. If they refuse, take it a step further, and get some people from here behind you, and attempt to sway the owner by force.

If worse comes to worse, you can take legal action, but bear in mind it may not end favourably.

Copyrights

This is vital. Check out my Civilization III FAQ (http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/civilization_iii_e.txt) for my latest copyright. It has a lot of stuff and is big, but who can find a loophole?

If you wish, you can include this in your guides, but please give me credit.

Simply copy and paste everything between the "s and place anywhere in your guide.

You should add a full list of GameFAQs affiliates to the list, so people don't get freaked out when they find their guide on, say, AOL or Gamefly.

I took CNET Gamecentre out because it is affiliated with GameFAQs

What will probably end up happening if it gets stickied, i will make a second one taht has more stuff (affiliate list etc) and ask Sailor or CJayC verry nicely to switch stickieness).

From what I hear FFM, you don't need any cash from him. Regardless, I have had no issues with honestgamers, so I would not add them to the bad site list based on one input thus far (hence my not ragging on dlh since they seem fine with everyone else).

I would be inclined to let them, but double check that your guides are not modified at all once they upload them.

If they are, go through the removal process.
