Announcing: Halo Fridays

2008 September 23
by Matt

I’m not an online gamer at heart, but I do love playing Halo 3. I just don’t play it nearly enough. So from October 1st, I’m pledging to play 250 games in six months. That doesn’t sound a lot (less than two games per day) and for many many players they will reach that target within a week, but for me it’s a big commitment. Especially with two jobs, a girlfriend, and the inability to keep playing a game for more than a month. So instead of wishing I was better at Halo, I’m going to make myself better through a series of challenges.

The ‘Halo Fridays’ updates challenges me to do the following by March 31st 2009 -

- Play 250 ranked / social games
- Achieve 100 EXP
- Reach a Trueskill rank of 35
- Achieve 75% of the multiplayer achievements
- Play with 10 people I “know”

A little clarification on the above. The EXP count is for global games, and considering I often lose team games, I figure less than half is respectible. The Trueskill rank is based on Lone Wolves, of which I am currently ranked 27. Playing with 10 people I “know” basically means those on my friends list or arranged through a forum or similar, and provides a little community interaction. And finally, getting 75% of the multiplayer achievements. How this is judged I’m not sure at this exact point (gamerscore points or amount of achievements) but it’ll be 75% of the achievements I have _yet_ to get. Especially considering today they released extra achievements, with a total of 750 gamerscore points to arrive within the next year. Eep.

Next Wednesday when the challenge officially begins, I’ll post my player stats at the time, and from each subsequent Friday provide updates on how I’m getting on. (Hence the name.) I will also aim to provide images and video updates with highlights on how terrible I am at all of this.

Will I reach my targets? Probably not. I need to think of some penalties to ensure I stay on track. Maybe some of you guys out there can think of some for me. But I can’t wait to get started.
